Once, it seemed as if the women's movement for economic and political equality and the sexual revolution were one campaign. Written by feminist Nancy Friday - whom I understand to be a psychologist of some sort - 'Women on Top' is a collection of erotic fantasies from hundreds of "oppressed" females who find empowerment through gangbangs, rape scenarios and bestiality.

Sometimes I was left pondering the extent of time on some womens' hands, pardon the pun, to enact their time consuming joys. Men were the problem solvers, the good providers, the sexual ones, and women -- well, we know what women were supposed to be and do. Four years later it would be the identical story with My Mother/My Self, the book that grew immediately out of My Secret Garden's questioning of the source of women's terrible guilt about sex. I picked up this book back in 2004, thinking it sounded quite interesting "How real life has changed women's sexual fantasies", back in 2010 I tried to read it, and it starts out way too clinical, I guess I just wanted some smut, not a real discussion, so, I did not make it very far in the book.

This article uses corpus linguistic methodologies to explore representations of lesbian desires and identities in a corpus of lesbian erotica from the 1980s and 1990s. The daughter could be grown and with children of her own, but if she had never emotionally separated from that first person who controlled her totally, how was she to know what was mother's opinion, what was her own? Women so totally absorbed man's evaluation of our sexuality that we came to judge ourselves by his needs: the less sexual the woman, the Nicer.
