About this deal

Apply at a rate of 50 million nematodes per 100 m2 as a curative or 50 million nematodes per 200 m2 as a preventative. Larvae quickly build up resistance to chemical control methods, and these chemicals can also negatively impact on the plant growth particularly in younger plants. The other important point is to apply the correct amount of nematodes as evenly as possible over the given area with enough water to achieve permeation and not excessive run off. Also known as sciarid flies, these small black flies are quite irritating, but the adult flies actually cause little damage. The resulting damage commonly shows up as nutrient and/or water deficiency brought about by decreased root absorption.

Several BCAs, such as insect parasitic nematodes, predatory mites and beetles, parasitic wasps and beneficial fungi and bacteria can be used to reduce pest populations. See our Eco Sticky Traps, Yellow Sticky Traps, Extra Large Yellow Sticky Traps , or our Mini Sticky Traps(for smaller pots). The adult sciarid flies live on and around the compost surface of pots, more commonly indoors rather than outside. The fungus gnat belongs to the family Sciaridae and is a common pest in flowers, house plants and herb pots. The kit comes with 2 sticky traps for monitoring and trapping to verify the presence of the pest, and 2 sponges with live nematodes for 2 successvie treatments of nematodes 2 weeks apart. The Dragonfli House Plant Care Bundle combines products that boost the overall health and growth of your house plants whilst also aiding them in battles against pests and diseases.

Use of entomopathogenic nematodes and new monitoring technique for control of fungus gnats, Bradysia coprophila (Diptera: Sciaridae), in floriculture. The potting medium (Ball-mix, Nursery-mix or Pro-mix) can influence the survival, persistence and efficacy of entomopathogenic nematodes in greenhouse production. Lack of awareness: many gardeners simply aren't aware of nematodes, the benefits of using them, that they're much safer to use than chemical controls, and how to use them correctly. As with any biological control measure, they are most effective when used preventively in conjunction with good cultural practices such as greenhouse sanitation and regular monitoring.Growers interested in using biological control are encouraged to begin by using beneficial nematodes to manage fungus gnats. Within the UK, the supply and use of biocontrol products containing EPN is regulated under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Exhibitline nematodes swim freely through moist compost (but they can drown if waterlogged), they are attracted to insect larvae and enter the body where a pellet of bacteria is released that kills the pest organism. The fungus gnat larvae then feed on plant roots and other organic matter for about 2 weeks until they pupate.

For smaller areas or if using for a heavy infestation, apply a third of the pack at a time, 7-10 days apart to ensure that no product is wasted.Gently squeeze the sponge 5 to 10 times in a litre of water to make a nematode solution which is then added to water in your watering can in 1:1 ratio ( equal parts nematode solution to water). When used indoors it can be used throughout the year as preventative measure or when the infestation occurs. They also carry fungal spores from plant to plant which can result in the spread of diseases such as Pythium, Phytophthora and Chalara. Once they find a host, they enter the body cavity through the breathing or feeding systems, and release bacteria (Xenorhabdus). The nematodes kill the vine weevil larvae, which do the most damage to the plant by eating the roots.
