About this deal

Long story short: PLUG YOUR CABLE IN ALL THE WAY and you shouldn't have any issues, barring incredibly rare manufacturing defects that would be just as likely on any other device. But spray painting a PSU can pose performance and safety risks when poorly done. Yet, even if you do it right, you’ll void the warranty since you’ll need to take it apart. The whole process just sounds complex and risky! e3: Added Lian Li's SFX PSU. As noted above, this is not compatible with 40-series GPUs. Added rumor / leak about Corsair possibly releasing an SFX-L series. For more on this subject, see our A Basic Guide To Motherboard, Case, and Power Supply Form Factors feature. Its unique features include ROG heatsinks, a 120mm ARGB-illuminated fan with an axial-tech design, and dual ball bearings. They provide 0dB cooling for loads up to 40% and a longer lifespan for reliability. Pros:

Minor update November 18th: GamersNexus has put out another video (and probably their last on the issue barring any major updates). tl;dw: The use of a cutting-edge PFC circuit in combination with a fully digital platform seems to be the key for record-setting performance. Besides its super efficiency, the AX1600i also offers great load regulation, amazing transient response, a long hold-up time, and unparalleled ripple suppression. Moreover, the great benchmark results are accompanied by quiet operation, enabled by a relaxed fan profile and a high-quality FDB fan. Using the Corsair Link software, you're able to choose between three fan modes: performance, balanced, and quiet.e17: December 18th, it looks like Lian Li is making a 90 degree adapter for 12VHPWR with a thermal pad and microcontroller that monitors temperature and can cut power if it detects that things are getting a little too toasty. No further information regarding pricing nor release date available at this time.

Third party cables DO NOT VOID YOUR WARRANTY if you are choosing to use e.g. CableMod cables or adapters. There was some confusion about this from an article on TomsHardware. CableMod has been working directly with Nvidia on developing their solution(s).So there have been a lot of threads asking about ATX 3.0 PSUs with the new 40-series cards, I thought it’d be helpful to have a community-sourced list of what all is out there for reference / linking. I’ll post all that I know / can find, but feel free to add more in the comments and I’ll add it to the OP.

e9: FSP group PSUs available as of late November 3rd US PST. Looks like PTM Pro are still up for sale as of the time of this writing. Make sure you are purchasing one that is clearly labeled ATX 3.0 / PCIE Gen5, ( such as this), as they are using the same model name as the non-ATX 3.0 version otherwise.

The SilverStone SX1000 is the strongest small form factor PSU money can get you today.

CableMod has a good brief on best practice here, and they are developing both a 90 and 180 degree adapter. Note that this may not fit all card designs and as of writing this (December 16th update), they are currently developing a V2 that is expected to ship at the end of February. On December 18th, GamersNexus posted this video, and it looks like Lian Li is also developing a 90 degree adapter for 12VHPWR with a thermal pad and microcontroller that monitors temperature and can cut power if it detects that things are getting a little too toasty. Unfortunately, no further information regarding pricing nor release date available at this time. I am unaware of any other 90/180 degree adapters being developed from Nvidia or any third party manufacturers. Update November 17th: GamersNexus has put out a very thorough video on the connector melting issue here, including actual reproduction of melting. It's incredibly informative and I highly recommend watching both it and their initial series of tests from October 30th if you have any concerns whatsoever about the reported issues with 12VHPWR cables / adapters. For the tl;dr summary, courtesy of u/Nestledrink over at the Nvidia subreddit: MSRP: GOLD EFFICIENCY (noteworthy, per Cybenetics testing the 750/850/1000W models all tested Platinum efficiency)

At 1000W and beyond, power supplies don’t come cheap! At this range, manufacturers understand that PC builders are looking for top-end specs, and such features come at a price! e24: September 15th. When I made this thread, there were few true ATX 3.0 PSUs, and little information regarding upcoming ones. Because that is no longer the case, with significant improvements in availability / options, this thread is no longer being maintained / updated. My best advice if you're unsure on what to get is:Cybernetics Certification 115V: Eff:Platinum Noise:Standard Cybernetics Certification 230V: Eff:Platinum Noise:Standard e11: November 15th, added other Silverstone models, ASUS Loki line beginning to see releases at least in Sweden. The Corsair RMx Shift Series PSUs are exceptionally built for a highly reliable power supply to extreme PC builds. They feature innovative side-mounted connectors for an easy DIY building experience! SSR-1000TR has a 135mm FDB fan with a premium hybrid fan control. It runs in a fanless mode for loads up to 40% and is virtually silent for loads up to 50%! The fan has an industry-leading life expectancy of up to 50,000 hours at 40°C. Pros: e2: Added ASUS TUF line, updates from the official ASUS Discord re: availability of the ASUS products.
