If you've spent every Wednesday since April 30, 2004 wearing pink, you have Mary Jane Fort to thank. As the costume designer for Gretchen told me you like Aaron Samuels. I mean, I don't care, do whatever you want, but lemme just tell you something about Aaron, all he cares about is school and his mom and his friends.
CADY: Being at Old Orchard Mall kind of reminded me of being in Africa, by the watering hole, when the animals are in heat. I thought, 'Well, we can be bold here," Barnes said. "'We can choose things without the fear that they're going to become ostracized or bullied, because the two of them obviously stand up for themselves' and I thought [the T-shirt] helped tell that story." The first and most iconic outfit is the pink outfit that Cady and her friends wear to school on Wednesday’s. You can find a pink shirt, cardigan and skirt to replicate this outfit. As Cady learned roughly 2.4 seconds after walking into the party, it was not. Cady may be a well-traveled math whiz, but when it comes to high school cliques, she has a lot to learn. Heron…Cady Heron While Barnes tried to stay away from recreating any looks in the movie, he did let one iconic look slip in: Damian’s sweatshirt and sunglasses costume from the gym scene, right down to the same color blue. Another important piece in your costume is a plastic bracelet bangle. This is a light touch to your outfit and it’s a symbol of Cady’s casual style in the movie. You can find a plastic bangle at any store that sells accessories. Yes, and they did. They liked a lot of their outfits, which I'm glad about. I'm always happy when I'm able to help them become who they need to be to tell the story. Then there's The Plastics. Cady is fascinated by Regina and her minions. Okay, so she's fascinated by Regina—Gretchen and Karen, not so much. Regina's species is unlike anything Cady's ever seen, and their rituals are all-consuming, with superficial rules aplenty, right down to how often they can wear ponytails. It's exhausting, and yet by Cady's own admission, dazzling:

By the end of the film, however, Cady's become a well-adjusted, level-headed high school senior with friends, a boyfriend, and the ability to wear pink or a ponytail any time she feels like it, thank you very much. Here's how Cady puts it in her own words: We tried to have a little bit of individuality in the group. Regina sort of told everyone else what to do. Within the realm of that, Gretchen was a little more demure and a little sweeter, which sort of evoked the cardigan, and Karen was truly the follower. She would do a little bit of either Regina or Gretchen, and they would tell her what to do and she would do it. When you put Cady into the mix, and she begins to surpass Regina is when it became really fun. Regina slips into her Juicy warmups which, at the time, was kind of couch potato-y. Janis and Damian do not look like the Plastics at all, but have their own sense of style and have their own wills. They have a plan too, but it just might not have been the plan of the Plastics. Oh, let me think about that. I would think that the color pink has gotten a little brighter, maybe it's more magenta than the pale pink that we used. The skirts might be a little longer, the shape might be a little different. I'm probably not saying exactly what you'd like me to say, but honestly in the realm of 10 years it's probably just the silhouettes that have changed.
