About this deal

In most board games you’re striving to be the happiest, the best, most progressive player. Gloom turns that on its head. In Gloom, you play the head of a family and it’s your job to make them as miserable as possible and then shuffle them off this mortal coil! You might poison them or give them crippling debt. A fun game of BOO-DUNNIT! It is lots of spirited fun, a boo-tastic fun and spooky game for Halloween and family game nights. It’s the 1920s in Arkham and portals are opening up tearing apart the barrier between this world and the world of the Ancient Ones! Monsters are coming through the portals and scaring everyone! While you’re making your family miserable, the other players will be trying to make your family happy! They don’t want your family to be miserable! The more miserable your family members are when they perish, the more points you get!

During play, if you roll the die and it lands on a symbol for one of the cards that you have already solved, then you receive a Ghost token. This token gives you the choice of which die action you want the next time an unusable die face is rolled. Each character has their own objective that relates to what they want in the movies. Taking three villains as examples – Ursula wants to have the Trident and the Crown at her lair, Queen of Hearts wants to win croquet, and Jafar wants to have the Magic Lamp at the Sultan’s Palace and control over Genie. If you have read my Game Nights with Friends and Family blog feature you will be fully away that I love to play board games. In our house we love to play a variety of games and have regular game nights. My favourite types of games are logic and deduction games. The kids like them too, but some of them are not always family friendly, unlike the fun, creepy and spooky Ghosted, that has been haunting my shelves for a while. Ghosted, from Big G Creative, is family game of deduction with a twist – rather than a game of WHO-dunnit, it is more of a game of BOO-dunnit! More comedy than horror, and lots of fun for the entire family. You play as one of 6 characters who are exploring a haunted old house. On each turn you move around the house, flipping over new room tiles as you discover a new room, creating a new house layout every game. Betrayal at House on the Hill takes the #1 spot on the list of best paranormal board games because it has hours upon hours of amazing paranormal stories for you to play through. The depth and creativity here are unmatched. The game is great too. You and your team of 3 – 6 players all enter a haunted house to take on some supernatural force BUT about halfway through it is revealed that one of you is a traitor and it becomes an all-out battle of you versus them. Fluxx is one of those games that sounds complicated when you explain it, but it’s really simple and fun to play! Why Zombie Fluxx is a great game for Halloween

Type of game: Co-operative Lovecraftian role-playing card game where your decisions affect future gamesA tip here is to make sure you’re seated far enough apart from each other that you cannot see your opponents’ evidence boards. They have sides for a bit of a barrier, but depending on how you’re sitting it may be extremely easy to spy on what the other players are doing. (My friends and I played this on our recent vacation, so we were on a hotel bed. I do not recommend this.)

In my gaming group, we used to have one person play the mayor of the town to talk through this opening sequence and not take part in the game. But the game publishers, Bezier Games, have released a free One Night app to talk people through it. The app even includes spooky music! As you explore spooky events will happen and you’ll discover items called Omens. Omens usually make your character stronger or give them special abilities. But there is a price to pay… In Zombies!!! the zombie horde has invaded your city and you need to escape! You must conserve your resources and life counters as you make your way towards the helipad and escape to safety!

7. Ghost Train (1974)

There is also randomness in the dice rolling but it's mitigated by Tao tokens that you can acquire and other abilities. Rather than the randomness making or breaking a game, it's a factor that should be incorporated into your strategy. Essentially, if you're always hoping for a perfect dice roll, you're probably doing something wrong. Small World: Underground is a bit like Risk, but in my opinion, it’s more fun and has a much cooler theme! You play for control of territories using tactics and the special powers of your race. You get points at the end of every turn for each territory you own! There are two ways to win, and both involve making a correct guess. You can either roll the scales of justice and guess correctly, or if you feel you’ve eliminated enough of the alternatives, you can make a Final Accusation. Please note that if you make a Final Accusation and it’s wrong, you will be out of the game. And while a correct guess during the scales of justice can immediately win the game, making a wrong guess will not eliminate you.
