About this deal

Written in around 1588, Doctor Faustus drew on Scot’s The Discovery in its representation of magic, yet discarded its dismissive tone. Faustus succeeds in summoning the demon Mephistopheles, and signs away his soul in a contract written with his own blood in return for 24 years of power. After wasting his time on petty vengeances, greed and lust, Faustus is finally sent to hell.

I know some of you are now like wait a minute, h Semiforas or a Book of Names and their virtues and properties, being seven semiforas attributed to Adam and seven semiforas attributed to Moses. At 28, I’m slightly too old to be familiar with the platform Twitch, mostly used for live video streaming, but tonight I’ve managed to get it working for this particular debate. As an atheist, I’m very likely in the minority, though I’m not the only Brit to have turned up in spite of it being such an ungodly hour this side of the pond. The chat box is buzzing as occultists of various stripes arrive to hear the arguments.Crowley, Aleister (ed.), S. L. MacGregor Mathers (transcribed) The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King. Translated into the English tongue by a dead hand (Foyers, Inverness: Society for the Propagation of Religious Truth, 1904) 1995 reprint: ISBN 0-87728-847-X.

All this material has been grouped and presented in a consistent and logical way covering the whole Western Mystery tradition and some relevant parts of the Eastern tradition. This is the final update of this volume. There are a range of detailed methods for evoking spirits and binding them, with an explanatory commentary by the editors which is not directed towards just theory and history, but to practical usage. Specific spirits, such as Birto, Agares, Vassago and Bealpharos and the methods for invoking them are explained, with illustrations of the form the spirits usually appear in. As you might expect, there is a whole section on skrying in the crystal, and the use of the magic bell, which explains the differences between evoking the spirit outside the circle in a triangle and seeing its image in a crystal. Curse you and deprive you from all your offices and places of joy and place and do bind thee in the depths of the bottomless pit, there to remain until the day of judgment; I say into the lake of fire and brimstone… let all the company of heaven curse thee… let the hosts of heaven curse thee, I curse thee into fire unquenchable, and torments unspeakable as thy name and seal is contained in this box, chained and bound up and shall be choked in sulphurus and stinking substance and burnt in this material fire… which is prepared for thee damned and cursed spirits and there to remain until the day of doom and never more remembered of before the face of God which shall come to judge the dead and the world by fire.” (Lesser Key of Solomon, Book 1: Ars Goetia) The Mansions of the Moon, describing the operations of the 28 constellations of the lunar zodiac, their magical virtues and their names. These more than 840 magical tables are the most complete set of tabular correspondences covering magic, astrology, divination, Tarot, I Ching, Kabbalah, gematria, angels, demons, Graeco-Egyptian magic, pagan pantheons, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Taoist and mystical correspondences ever printed. It is more than five times larger and more wide ranging than Crowley’s Liber 777.This treatise is informative at the beginner initiate level, the intermediate level where you’re looking for something to help you advance your craft, and also a serviceable tome for the advanced practitioner. Comparing how four versions of the Clavicula Salomonis in four different languages depict the casting of Solomon’s Magic Circle. The Magical Treatise of Solomon, [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] sometimes known as Hygromanteia ( Greek: Ὑγρομαντεία) or Hygromancy of Solomon, the Solomonikê [6] (Σολομωνική), or even Little Key of the Whole Art of Hygromancy, Found by Several Craftsmen and by the Holy Prophet Solomon, [7] refers to a group of similar late Byzantine-era [8] grimoires purporting to contain Solomon's instructions to his son Rehoboam on various magical techniques and tools to summon and control different spirits, those spirits' powers, astrological beliefs, select charms, different means of divination, and the magical uses of herbs. Then I started an adventure of connect-the-dots through several different grimoires on Renaissance magic, so this text is also synthesized with the infamous 16th century Tractatis de Nigromatia, Sibly’s 1704 Occult Sciences, the Arbatel de magia veterum better known by its short title, The Arbatel (1575), the Clavicula Salomonis de secretis, purportedly circa 200 AD, all of Cornelius Agrippa’s De Occulta Philosophia books (1567, 1581), the Heptameron, the Hygromanteia, the Grimoire du Pape Honorious (1760), the Robert Turner translation of the Archidoxis magicae (1531), and the Petit Albert (1706). From the Tractatis de Nigromatia (16th century) a b c d Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis: The Lesser Key of Solomon, Detailing the Ceremonial Art of Commanding Spirits Both Good and Evil; ed. Joseph H. Peterson; Weiser Books Maine; 2001. pp. xi–xvii.

Nonetheless, I’ve included as many different systems of correspondence tables from grimoires dated before the 18th century in reference to Solomonic magic so you have everything you need to know for working with planetary spirits and conjuring angels. Who I sourced a particular set of correspondences from will be provided in the caption above or below the given table of information. Just be mindful that they don’t all match each other, so give the whole text a read-through at least once, do some thinking on your own, and decide for yourself how you want to approach the differing correspondence systems. Buer, the tenth spirit, who teaches "Moral and Natural Philosophy" (from a 1995 Mathers edition). ( Public Domain ) If the matter is to be accomplished by invocation, before thy conjurations, thou shalt say devoutly in thine heart: SABOLES, HABARON, ELOHI, ELIMIGIT, GABELOY SEMITION, METINOLACH, LABALITENA, NEROMOBEL, CALEMERE, DALUTI, TIMAGUEL, VILLAGUEL, TEVEMIS, SERIE, JERETE, BARUCHABA, ATHONAVEL, BARACABA, ERATICUM, through him by whom ye have empire and power over men, ye must accomplish this work so that I may go and remain invisible […]The facing directions and timing of evocations have always been crucial, and these too have remained consistent. Practical considerations such as choice of incense, the timing of the cutting of the wand, utilisation of rings and statues, use of the Table of Evocation, or the acquisition of a familiar spirit are also explained. Techniques of Solomonic Magic is thus a follow on book from Techniques of Graeco-Egyptian Magic. This volume is based on the magicians’ own handbooks rather than the opinions of theologians, historians, anthropologists, sociologists or legislators. The emphasis is on what magicians actually did and why. Tools used by magicians in 7th century Alexandria, 15th century Constantinople and 19th century London are very much the same. More than 70 illustrations (many in colour) of magical equipment like the wand, the sword, wax images and magical gems, drawn from a wide range of manuscripts are reproduced and examined. This is the most detailed analysis of Solomonic magic, from the inside, ever penned.

Whether the texts were really written by Solomon, or even if they were not, there are certainly some very interesting topics covered within! This is the true ancestor of the Key of Solomon. Containing the full translation of the Hygromanteia.
