About this deal

Pathfinders are some of the bravest warriors in the T’au Empire, pushing forward beyond positions of safety to take key ground for the Greater Good. With lots of operatives, Pathfinders can be great for this in Kill Team, giving you board control and objective dominance. Pathfinder teams essentially get a whole new suite of Equipment to play with. Photon Grenades return here, but as everyone already has Markerlights and the Shas’Ui comes with a Holographic Readout built in, the new team calls for all-new options. Of these, High-Intensity Markerlight (2 EP) is liable to see the most use, since the ability to drop 2 markerlights instead of 1 on a target when doing the action makes getting to that 3 ML sweet spot much, much easier. Likewise, Orbital Survey Uplink (3 EP) gives its operative a 2AP action to put a Markerlight on any enemy operative without terrain above them and every enemy operative within ▲ of them. You won’t need to do this often, but when you do it can be absolutely devastating. If you think about it, blue is a bottomless palette of choices. You can experiment with the variety of ways to use blue on your models. You can add glowing power weapon effects, weather your blues with warm brown-red shades, or add decals over your open areas of blue armor to create added interest. These operatives are especially frightening at the controls of a Recon Drone, whose burst cannon can reap a bloody toll against enemy kill teams. Frankly, you want to be shooting with it as often as you possibly can.

My favorite red paints for base coating models is P3 Sanguine base and Reaper Master Series Carnage red. Both provide great coverage, mix well, and have a smooth finish. Games Workshop Citadel Mephiston Red is another favorite, but will need some thinning for an even coat without leaving brush streaks. In the wrong context, however, green is an ugly color. I tend to suggest avoiding highly saturated green color schemes with equal parts red. The clashed of green and red is awful if overdone. Allows units within 6″ of a charged unit to fire overwatch as if they were the target of the charge, at the cost of not being able to fire overwatch again that turn. In the game, the Pathfinders excel at shooting, and while they’re not at all durable fighters, their use of artificially intelligent drones give them a defensive and supportive edge that the AI luddites of other civilizations couldn’t dream of taking advantage of. This is your standard operative, but with good use of Markerlights (see above) and the Pulse Accelerator Drone to boost its already good Pulse Carbine, it can provide some great shooting. Note, however, that many of your special operatives also have Pulse Carbines in addition to the rest of their loadout. Blooded Pathfinder (1 allowed per Kill Team)Blue is a great color for Tau, and one of my favorite color schemes for the “good guys”. There’s something peaceful about the color blue, even though you’re painting machines of war. This drone is designed to make optimal use of the Saviour Protocols rule that lets it take wounds instead of your other non-Drone operatives: it has a 4+ Invulnerable Save and can roll an additional dice to ignore non-mortal wounds on a roll of 5+. This is a great drone for keeping one of your more valuable operatives alive. MV7 Marker Drone (1 allowed per Kill Team) The famous El'Myamoto, also called sub-commander Darkstrider, has never sought promotion beyond the role of Pathfinder. Instead, he has continued to hone his skills as a stealth specialist, contributing to victory after victory for the T'au Empire from the shadows. Are you looking for easy Tau paint schemes? Here are the 9 color motifs and schemes with reference images for a T’au army collection:

The home world of all T’au is the planet of “T’au”, which is the capital of the Tau empire. There are numerous T’au septs within the Tau empire ( source). Each T’au sept has its own sept symbol and color scheme. Here are a few of the official Tau sept color schemes: The Tau are the most open and tolerant of the races in the galaxy, which means that they prefer not to destroy all other races on sight and are nowhere near as xenophobic as the Imperium. They are appreciative of the ways of the humans, Eldar, and other sentient races, but hold their own values as superior above all others. [Needs Citation] This is your Leader, so you have to bring him in your Kill Team, but he’s also a decent fighter with a 3+ Ballistic Skill and a Bonding Knife that’s actually not a terrible melee weapon, which is a big deal in a Pathfinder Kill Team. He is also responsible for declaring Arts of War (see above), and has the Holographic Readout ability which lets him give a nearby non-Drone friendly operative a -1 to Action Point cost for performing a mission action once per battle. Shas’la Pathfinder (12 allowed per Kill Team) Photon Grenades are also issued as standard weapons to T'au Pathfinders, though some teams have been known to carry EMP Grenades for use against vehicle threats. All T'au Pathfinders are protected by a lighter form of the standard Combat Armour employed by Fire Warriors known as Recon Armour. Recon Armour sacrifices a degree of protection for greater freedom of movement and better stealth capabilities.

There are new and returning treats here. the Shas’La Pathfinder – the basic team member from the Compendium – is reprinted here, and the Weapons Expert Pathfinder is identical to the Heavy Gunner from the Compendium. Likewise, Gun Drones, Grav-Inhibitor Drones, Shield Drones, and Pulse-Accelerator Drones are also unchanged here. So let’s focus on what’s new and different. Acrylic blue paint is also an easy color to use. Most blue acrylic paints have great coverage and thin easily with a bit of water. Speaking of highlighting, make sure you consider how bright and saturated you want your red to appear. If you add white to your red paint, you’ll get pink as a highlight. For those of you who want less pink, and more reddish highlights, use yellow instead. Keep your saturation high for a primarily red paint job. Most of the time that you bring Pathfinders though, you probably won’t be equipping them with expensive weapons and thus will have no need to pay for an expensive carapace for them. As a result they are more likely to be assaulted, in which case you’ll find use for their Photon Grenades. As previously discussed, Photon Grenades can help to give several T’au units some additional resiliency through their -1 To-Hit that they confer, but against dedicated assault units, it’s usually not enough. Doesn’t hurt to try though. Brown and its related shades and hues, e.g., bone, warm whites, are fairly easy to paint with a regular brush. Hobby acrylic paints in the brown range have good coverage and color density. They make great washes and glazes, if you’re looking to use more advanced blending and painting techniques.
