Makita are a brand that has become synonymous with hard wearing, durable products that you can rely on. To keep in line with that, they have fitted this electric pressure washer with a wobble plate pump that has an aluminium pump head to prevent any rusting. The pressure will shut off automatically when you release the trigger as part of the tool’s ‘total stop’ system. The trolley design of the Wilks-USA RX545 makes it easy to move around your garden and driveway. Weighing only 11 kg, it’s a distinctly lightweight unit that can be easily lifted and transported. In fact, of all the pressure washers I’ve used, this is one of the lightest – particularly for a unit this powerful. The K4 ‘full control’ gets its name from the spray gun and lances that come with it. The trigger gun has a LED display (two AAA batteries required) to show you what current pressure setting you have the pressure washer on. Overall there are many pluses to this pressure washer and many things to love about it, making it a great choice. It has a long hose which is longer than most electric jet washers on the market at 26m, and it has a feel for it. The different fittings, attachments and built-in detergent bottle make it ideal for all tasks, and it has onboard storage too. When keeping items in the car boot for a long time, it’s easy for them to roll around and for small parts to get lost in the melee.
It includes a 3-in-1 lance so there’s no need to swap over, these include a variable lance, dirt buster and detergent lance. There is actually 1 litre of stone detergent included with this unit. I’ve used a few different pressure washers over the years, to blast the dirt from my patio and walls, and to give my car a speedy clean up. Some of the smaller and more portable ones do a reasonably good job, but I was completely blown away by the Wilks RX550i.The best things about this pressure washer are the massive amounts of hose and the wide variety of nozzles and wands that come with it. There’s no getting round the fact that this is a heavy tank of a jet washer though. It’s not something I’d want to carry up a flight of stairs, but thanks to its long reach I doubt I’ll ever need to test that out. Compact and versatile, this pressure washer can be lifted up and carried with just one hand. It has a 5 m cable, giving reasonable freedom to move around whilst using it. The range of accessories and different types of spray nozzles make this an incredibly versatile pressure washer. Some smaller models of jet wash are much more limited in what you can use them for. Sure, you could buy extra attachments, but having them all to hand here is very useful. It’s the range of add-ons that elevate this from a basic bit of DIY kit to an almost professional jet washer. If you want to use your cordless pressure washer for more delicate tasks, such as cleaning a grubby dog after a walk, you should look for something much gentler, around 5 bar.
Reach - The pressure washer comes with a 10 metre long hose and an additional 8 metre hose, thereby providing a total reach of 18 metres. This unit is much heavier than other best pressure washers at 30kg and the measurements are 108 x 40 x 40cm. The Wilks-USA includes an auto stop/start feature and on-board detergent tank. We all know that falling over the hose and power cable is a constant battle, so a real positive here is that Wilks have provided ‘on-board storage’ for these cables to ensure they are clean, tidy, minimise space and prevents any damage to the hose and power cable. This coupled with the telescopic handles further helps to reduce your storage.

Finally, if you will be doing a lot of window cleaning with your cordless power washer, you will benefit from a longer reach. In this case you should look for a washer with an extension lance.
