As I mentioned above, we struggled and struggled and struggled to get Lucy to stay in the Tail Wagon when it was in motion. While there is a wall that keeps your dog securely inside, escape artists can certainly hop out if they really want to. However, I honestly can’t imagine a 75 pound dog sitting comfortably in it. Lucy is about 45 pounds and, while she does have wiggle room (we know, because kids have been in there with her during the initial training), it’s not a huge space. So, week one the dogs took turns sitting and staying in the clothes basket, getting in and out on command, and I was even able to drag Kona around the living room to introduce some movement. Riley on the other hand did not like the movement – he’s going to be my problem child! I’ll keep rewarding Riley for getting into the basket and keep moving it around little by little until he feels more secure. Burley Design manufactures bike trailers out of Eugene, Oregon. The brand started out in Fargo, North Dakota some 40 years ago and eventually relocated to Eugene. Burley designed the Tail Wagon with a reverse opening from the childrens’ trailers. The large rear tailgate allows dogs to easily hop in and hop out without having to jump over the hitch.

Made from an aluminum frame, the Burley Tail Wagon weighs in at 23.5 lbs (11kg). For its size and durability, the weight is appropriate. The design team has slimmed down as much as possible while maintaining the quality and maximizing features. Dimensions The Tail Wagon dog bike trailer is all about bringing joy into you and your pet's lives. As much as we love the Tail Wagon, there is always room for improvement! With just a couple of modifications and additions, the Tail Wagon would be absolutely perfect. The key is to getting dogs comfortable in the trailer before it’s moving (which is the hardest part to get them ok with). We put the trailer in our house for about a week with the wheels off and her favorite bed in it. And then, when the weather was nice, it sat outside for a safe place for her to sit for another week. Use treats, lots of treats One thing that sets the Tail Wagon aside from a child-carrier is the entry point. Dogs can easily go and out the large “tailgate” which also bears the weight on the wheels. Large carrying capacity The side mesh panels do keep out some sun, but it still penetrated through the fabric making for a toasty dog on really hot days. We’d really love to see the Tail Wagon include an adjustable sun shade like they have on the children’s trailers.
