About this deal

C206 canisters are available in Butane or in Butane/Propane mix. I would advise against using Butane/Propane mix on stoves and lamps built for C200 Butane canisters. The S200 stoves were intended as picnic and hiking stoves, they were even used on Everest in the 1970's as there was nothing better about then.

If you need a lightweight stove there are now better lightweight stoves available using Butane/Propane mix gas. Some double stoves have a grill underneath the main burners, with separate power control, so they burn separately. OP, keep an eye out in lidl. They often have piercable cylinders on sale. Not camping gaz but perfectly good.

Finally, the stove set up (e.g. stove model, windshield, heat reflector, heat exchangers on the pots) is a much bigger factor than the canister type. It was not until after this time that Butane/Propane mixes were considered as they worked better in cold conditions. I use the Campingaz Twister system that has the mixed resealable canisters, that work better in cold conditions. Gas stoves can be expensive especially if you want double burners. It is cheaper to buy two single stoves, considering the gas type, and the size of the gas container. Read our article on the top budget gas stoves, safety aspects per stove, size and weight. Plus the pros and cons of each.

Some people seem to think that certain brands give a more consistent flow and let you use the full canister better. But that’s not widely experienced, there’s no obvious consistency in which are the best/worst brands, and I don’t know of any reason that would be true (ultimately, they are just metal pots filled with gas). The main difference is the proportion of propane to butane. More propane = better cold weather performance. The exact mix of propane, butane and isobutane is usually secret. But above 5 degreees Celsius (41 Fahrenheit), you probably don’t need any butane Even fewer knew that there are several dual fuel stoves and handy little adaptors you can get for your camping stove that will allow it to use any type of gas. A coffee mug holds 350 ml, just under 1/3 of a litre. One litre of water takes an average of 3.10 minutes. Potentially just 350ml of water can boil in just over 1 minute. Why don't you advise using butane propane mix on bluet type stoves, Bramston? There is no reason for that? Indeed the bluet stoves on Everest used a butane propane mix as pure butane simply wouldn't have worked. Those canisters worked their way into the climbing community. I used a globetrotter in the early eighties that used both and my father's 1970s bluet also could use both. As for saying there was nothing better...... svea? The S200 stoves used on Everest in the 1970's by the likes of Doug Scott and Dougal Hasten used C200 Butane canisters. In the morning they would light one stove and get a tiny flame. They would then place the 2nd stove above the lit one to warm up the gas. Once both stoves were warmed up and lit they would be able to make breakfast. Having given two talks on camping stoves at recent festivals, one of the key things I realised was that not everyone knows about the different types of gas canisters available for camping stoves. On average, a mug of coffee holds 350ml of water. To reduce time and waste gas, only fill your kettle with the amount of water you will use. It is the same if you are boiling pasta or rice, but place a lid on your saucepan to retain heat. We have based our calculations on experience and, on average, 150g of fuel burned per hour. It means that 2.5g of gas is burnt per minute of usage for a single burner stove. A single portable gas stove is lightweight and has only one burner ring. They use either gas canisters or cylinders that you can easily remove.
