Cleo, who has a long-time partner and a ten-year-old son, Frankie, gets her special recipe rum blended and produced by a local bottler in Chorley. The name for her rums comes from a legendary story about a Caribbean seductress who enticed men into a forest, never to be seen again.

I think that pretty much covers everything, so lets see how I get on with this Spiced Rum. I’ve been trying recently to cover more of the “ different” Spiced Rums, that have appeared on the market and avoid the numerous Sailor Jerry and Kraken copycats. This being a Clementine Spiced Rum I am seeing it more as a flavoured rum. However, I understand the spices in the mix pair with the Clementine, so its not all just about the orange citrus. The Cotswolds Distillery is set to launch a new limited single cask release called Cotswolds Distillery Single Madeira Cask. As a sipper this has a lot going on. There is an intial sweetness, which gives way to a peppery mid palate and a slightly sour/tart note. A touch of gooseberry and some sharp citrus – lemon and lime. It’s a very dry and clean tasting rum, with just enough spice and oak to balance out the more citrusy elements and provide a good balance overall.

London-based spirit maker Doghouse Distillery has launched an aperitivo called Doppelgänger, which is bottled 20% ABV, to its growing portfolio. Further nosing allows some of the sweeter notes from the DDL rum (Enmore), so we get some toffee,raisin and some mixed fruit peel. Barbados is represented by a very healthy dose of vanilla and light baking spices. There are wafts of oak and spice but it is overall quite a fruity and funk forward rum. Blends have kind of fallen out of fashion recently, especially amongst more serious enthusiasts. Even casual drinkers seem to be going towards rums from specific islands or countries with very distinctive profiles rather than opting for a multi-island/country blend. That said as has been seen with The Duppy Share, a well constructed blend is still a very decent rum.Diablesse Clementine Spiced Rum. La Diablesse is a character in Caribbean fokelore. More specifically the island of Grenada. Diablesse Clementine Spiced Rum (40% abv) is the only clementine spiced rum in the world and an international gold medal winner. It is a 100 per cent single origin Demerara rum from the world-renowned Diamond Distillery in Guyana. Using centuries-old traditional distillation methods, it is infused with only natural ingredients; clementine, ginger, cinnamon, vanilla pod and clove, and has a unique and appealing flavour profile. Keepr’s honey-infused artisan spirits has unveiled a new bottle design and branding, encapsulating the brand’s natural connection to British bee conservation and beekeeping. Distilled, produced and distributed by The British Honey Company, the Keepr’s range features five craft spirits, including Classic, using a London Dry base; Raspberry and Honey Gin; Elderberry & Mulberry and Honey Gin; Smoked Honey Infused Bourbon; and Honey Infused Spiced Rum.

The vanilla pod isn’t really all that apparent -it’s probably just adding a little sweetness to the mix. This is probably the type of Spiced Rum you don’t want to start drinking neat after a few more “normal” rums. I dare say a headache will undoubtedly await the next day. Alongside an empty bottle. The finish is of reasonable length and the ginger remains for quite a while in the mouth. It’s quite moreish though. Diablesse Caribbean Rum is comprised of an 8 year old Barbados rum from the Foursquare Distillery, a 4 year old Jamaican rum from Worthy Park Estate and 2 year old Guyanese Rum from Diamond Distillery. Diablesse Caribbean Rum is a versatile and very enjoyable blend of rum. They could easily have went for a cheaper blend and added some young Trini rum. Instead they opted for better quality more interesting rums and you can tell the difference. Scottish celebrity chef Tony Singh has announced the launch of a range of beers working in collaboration with Scottish Brewery of the Year, Fierce Beer. The new product launch from Brothers follows the success of its 2021 flavour launches Pink Grapefruit and Honeycomb, as well as the return of Cloudy Lemon.All the rums in the blend have been aged in ex-bourbon casks and there is no finish or extra maturation provided to the rums at any stage. So what we are getting is a very clean, very traditional blend of what many might see as Navy rums. Unlike Navy rums such as Lambs there is no caramel colouring or additives in this particular blend. Diablesse Caribbean rum is bottled at 40% ABV. There are a number of expert master distillers who are women but we don't tend to see that through the branding or through their story. Diablesse achieves this by disappearing, using magic to confuse the men, who then run scared around the forest until they fall to their death or are eaten by the many predators in the forest. Sounds a bit like a few of my ex girlfriends……. The first rum is an 8 year old Barbados rum from Foursquare distillery. Making rum since 1820 and the oldest in Barbados, this family owned distillery is presided over by a passionate, fourth-generation, master distiller. Using locally produced sugar cane molasses the traditional pot & column still distillation techniques are still used to this day to produce a light, golden rum full of flavour.
