About this deal

Other qualities distinguish bourbon as well, including a characteristic sweetness from the corn, which can be absent in other American spirits such as rye whiskey. These elements also make this wholly unique style of spirit so different from Scotch and other popular types of global whiskey, like Canadian and Japanese whisky. Corn dominates the initial palate with clove, cinnamon and caramel moving in behind creating a lively C quartet. That pervasive herbal nature from the nose is alive and well on the palate along with some dill, bourbon spice, pepper, astringent oak and juniper in the place of the resinous pine. This collection features some of the finest whiskies made in America, including select bourbon whiskies crafted by some of the most famous distilleries in the US. You’ll also find a selection of rare and exclusive whiskies, which features single cask releases and limited edition bottles from your favourite American whisky brands. Evanston is also the home of prohibition, for it was here that Frances Elizabeth Willard championed the temperance movement with the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. As a not-so-subtle nod to her achievements, Paul Hletko named his distillery FEW Spirits when it became the first distillery in Evanston since prohibition. Every FEW Spirits label carries with it some local heritage by depicting a different scene from the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893.

Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). Maker's Mark was the best-selling bourbon in the world in 2022, closely followed by Bulleit, Woodford Reserve and Jim Beam. Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise.Bourbon is cheaper than Scotch, Irish, and other whiskeys because it is made from corn, which is much cheaper than barley, the grain used for other whiskeys. Also, the grain prices in the United States where bourbon is produced are lower than in other countries. Is bourbon sweeter than Scotch whisky? Without prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. We shall make reasonable efforts to inform you of any unavailability due to maintenance or updates. Once the liquid reaches between 80 and 125 proof, distillers fill the liquid into a fresh charred oak barrel for as long as they wish. For example, Eagle Rare is always matured for 10 years, though many age for only one or two. Next, the bourbon is decanted, diluted and bottled.

Appearance: First off, I will disclose that the bottle (at least the one I got) is capped really tightly. I might have small and limited hand strength (if that’s a thing) but wriggling the stopper out of this was a workout. Be forewarned, slight folks! I suppose it’s better than wobbly and getting whiskey everywhere? Anyway, how this whiskey looks in the bottle: cinnamon meets crimson. In the glass: sightly browner but still very reddish, like a well-polished cherrywood dresser. Aging must take place in a fresh, charred oak barrel. The Scottish whisky industry makes good use of the abundance of these ex-bourbon barrels, for maturing their Scotch. Single-barrel bourbon contains bourbon from only one barrel, which means each batch is slightly different and the taste is less predictable. If you like a certain bourbon and want exactly the same taste every time you buy a new bottle, skip the single-barrel bourbon. It's one of the most popular spirits in the United States, but what is bourbon, exactly? By definition, bourbon is a type of American whiskey made from at least 51% corn, complemented by grains like malted barley, rye, and wheat. The American Bourbon Association also points out that it must age in charred new oak barrels and include no color or flavor additives.

In our full bottle review of Four Roses Single Barrel, our reviewer notes that this expression uses one "yeast-mash-bill combo that produces a rich, fruity, spicy and thoroughly delicious bourbon." He goes on to note, "A lot of single barrels go for extremes, whether in proof or in flavor profile. Not so here. This is a totally approachable bourbon that’s easy enough for everyday drinking but complex and rich enough for special-occasion quaffing." The characteristic flavors of bourbon are vanilla, oak—from the barrels in which it is aged—and caramel, but there are also bourbons with notes of honey, buttery toffee, fruit, spice like cinnamon, or smokiness. The tasting notes on the bottle are useful indicators of what to expect. There is a strange balance in the glass that, oddly enough, works rather well and is complimented by a round medium body and a smooth polished texture. We’re experts in whisky and work closely with distilleries to ensure we’re only offering the very best in our selection. With a variety of whiskies from around the world, you can be confident that we have a bottle that you’ll love.

Our reviewers each noted a full-bodied, rich palate paired with a long finish. “[The] finish is long and luxurious, with butterscotch lingering on the palate for quite some time,” says MorgenthalerOur tasting panel all agree that Woodford Reserve is a versatile, high-quality bottling to sip or mix with. Our reviewers found the typical bourbon notes of corn, caramel, vanilla, fruit, and oak on the nose and palate. The grain mixture (mash) must be at least 51% corn. This is because corn grows well in the US, and that’s what early pioneers could easily grow and distil in one season. As this is what was historically used for bourbon, that is what makes a bourbon a bourbon, rather than an American whiskey. Nothing except water can be added. Other whiskies may have colours and flavourings added, although bourbon must be totally unadulterated. On the other side of the coin, high rye bourbon is one which has a high percentage of rye in the mash bill. They are known for their boldness, with deeply aromatic flavours of mixed spice and dark fruits. Jim Beam and Four Roses are examples of high rye bourbon. What is the best selling Bourbon?
