In that post, I touched on the fact this is a semi-dry sparkling with notes of citrus and fruit. Semi-dry, confusing huh? Wondering what that means? Skip down to the Flavour Profile down below! This Oddbird Sparkling Review is the first non-alcoholic French sparkling wine review to land on Tipple Zero.

According to current UK government guidance, drinks that contain up to 1.2% ABV can be labelled as no or low alcohol. To put that into context, a ripe banana can contain up to 0.5% alcohol! Liberated from alcohol does not only describe the removal of the substance, it also describes the liberation from our drinking culture. With that being the case, what better reason than to pop a bottle of non-alcoholic French Champagne! The company also makes a red wine - Domaine de la Prade made with merlot and shiraz grapes. But we haven't tasted it yet.So we were thrilled with how complex and delicious Oddbird sparkling wines were "liberated from alcohol" as the company says. Different grape varieties are used depending on the region, for example Oddbird uses Auxerrois, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot.

If you read the blog, you will notice this is one of the non-alcoholic sparkling wines I mention in my recent blog post about what alcohol-free sparkling I have been enjoying through 2021! Depending on the wine, the grapes for Oddbird's wines come from different, carefully selected vineyards in regions in Italy and France, each with its own terroirs: Wine makes up around 15% of the non-alcoholic beverage market (second behind non-alcoholic beer)... but it's the sector that has the most room for growth, in our opinion. In addition to focusing on the removal of alcohol from wine, Oddbird focuses on communicating the idea of providing everyone with a choice. That being, providing people with the ability to choose whether they are drinking with or without alcohol. The drink finished a bit flat on the palate, as opposed to the other two sparklings that really left you with some flavor to savor. Oddbird wine is clearly unafraid to be the odd one out (serious’ish pun). Founded by Moa Gürbüzer, a 20+ year therapist/social worker, Oddbird’s founding vision is to question and change alcohol consumption norms.

Traditional wine-making methods and aging techniques (their wines are aged for up to 12 months – a rarity in alcohol-free wines!); and

Oddbird Blanc de Blancs is crisp, intricate, and dry, with fresh tones of Granny Smith apples, honey, and lime. A youthful 100% Chardonnay wine with high complexity.
