About the Smart Chord and Smart Scale features, M‑Audio say they make it ‘easy to craft a perfect song’. Whilst one of those was sadly not forthcoming for me during the test period (and I’d have even settled for slightly imperfect) they have their uses for players and producers who aren’t fluent keyboard players, or struggle with some aspects of music theory. Essentially both are a kind of note quantise scheme. You start by telling the Oxygen Pro what key you want to work in, then the chord voicing or scale type (and many of both are available, from mainstream to more exotic), and it channels you into theoretical correctness. Novation has come a long way, and this is the 49 key keyboard we recommend for budget MIDI controllers.
Your transport controls, faders, knobs, and DAW shortcuts will now have messages mapped for Pro Tools. The screen area and data knob feature 3 enhanced dedicated buttons for alternating between DAW, Analog Lab, and User modes. Connectivity on the Arturia KeyLab 49 MkII is also a strong selling point. You have the option of drawing power using the USB port or the optional DC adaptor. But don’t worry, after my testing (explained below).. I can highly suggest this M-Audio Oxygen Pro specifically for FL Studio usage, because it’s hard to find a 49-Key Semi-Weighted MIDI Keyboard at this price and features!
