About this deal

The fifth of the Barbados distillery’s Exceptional Cask range, this bottling has been aged in both ex-bourbon and Madeira casks. Roasted tropical notes and salted caramel move into apples and sultanas, with plenty of tannins. This is a rum you want to sit with. Alc 56% Aged Rum: aged for at least 3 years, JM aged rums stand out with even more intense woody, spicy, and fruity notes. Depending on their vintage and aging duration, they offer an extraordinary flavor profile that delights connoisseurs of high-end rum and other spirits.

To the more casual consumer white agricole does perhaps have a more consistent and similar profile than molasses bases rums from differing brands and islands. That is largely because most agricole follows a similar process and comes from only a handful of locations. The more refined agricole drinker probably will notice more nuances than me as I am relatively inexperienced with agricole rhum. This smells like a delicious mix between a rum and a bourbon, taking the best components from each. This is, of course, just a snapshot. Why not take some time to delve further into each country’s rum-making history and the distilleries telling their stories today? Then the next time you hear the catchall term ‘Caribbean rum’, you’ll have a better idea of the full picture. Caribbean rums: eight to get you started Rhum Agricole is known for its full-bodied and grassy flavour profile, often described as having a herbaceous quality with notes of tropical fruit, spices, and earth. The concept of terroir is highly significant in the production of Rhum Agricole, as the environment - soil type, topography, and climate - affects the quality and taste of the sugarcane and, hence, the final spirit. Each distillery's Rhum Agricole carries the imprint of the land from which its cane was harvested. Mixed it certainly works better it makes very enjoyable Ti Punch and is equally good with soda water and lemonade. It’s also very pleasant in a Daiquiri. It adds nice spicy notes to each drink – its quite vegetal. In that respect similar to a Jamaican Overproof. As for the size, the label is large… and normally I’d complain about that, since such a huge label would prevent you from seeing the spirit inside the bottle. But the dark green glass used here already means there really isn’t much to see. This might be the least known of the Rhum J.M variants in the U.S., as it hasn’t been in our market long. It sits in a bit of an odd position in the company’s lineup, being an aged rhum that has a lot in common with the slightly more expensive V.S.O.P release. Both the V.O and the V.S.O.P weigh in at 43% ABV (86 proof), and spend 3-4 years in American oak. The biggest difference seems to come in exactly how that oak is treated. Davis said this year’s support from the St Barthelemy Collectivite had proven invaluable, helping to place the event as a prominent part of the annual St Barth calendar. The Damoiseau VIP party at Les Ilets de la Plage. Martin had recognized the quality of the sugar produced at this plantation and decided that they should switch from trying to mass produce raw sugar and instead focus on producing sugar cane for use in French agricultural rum. He built a distillery on the plantation, and ever since his initials (JM) have been branded on every barrel of rum produced at that location.

MORE INFOThis year’s event featured a broad slate of high-level partners, from luxury airline Tradewind Aviation to the Caribbean’s top villa provider, WIMCO St Barth Properties to charter yacht company The Moorings and luxury brand Davidoff.

The biggest addition to this year’s event was the Rum Festival on the Harbor, an initiative spearheaded by Erjon Lulaj.

Rhum Agricole is a distinctive style of rum originating from the French Caribbean islands, most notably Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Marie-Galante. Its name, which translates to "agricultural rum," distinguishes it from molasses-based rums, emphasising its creation from freshly squeezed sugarcane juice rather than from by-products of the sugar production process. Rhum Agricole holds a prestigious position in the world of spirits, celebrated for its expressive terroir-driven character and the adherence to rigorous production standards. In the finish, caramel and vanilla remain very long, fruit and wood also remain for longer. You must go to the island ! It wasn’t long ago that I was diving headfirst into rhum agricole for the first time, tasting a lineup of three rhums from iconic Martinique producer Rhum Clément. Not to be outdone, however, is the island’s other most famous rhum producer: Rhum J.M. If I’m going to explore the mixology potential of true agricoles with one of Martinique’s classic brands by tasting my way through the core lineup, then it makes sense I should do so again with the other major agricole brand most commonly found on U.S. shelves. And this time, I’m doing four rhums, rather than three. It began with a rooftop, oceanfront tasting of ultra-rare Martinique rum at St Barth’s magnificent Le Barthelemy Hotel and Spa. But the week was far more than just a competition, with nearly two dozen events across five days, from master classes with distillers and blenders to rum-pairing dinners to VIP cigar-and-rum pairings. Rhum HSE’s Samuel Laborieux gives a master class.

Rum J.M has traveled the globe and consistently takes top honors at the largest international competitions (Paris, Brussels, Chicago, Miami and San Francisco). J.M Aged Rums are especially popular with people who love fine whiskies and brandies and are looking for new taste sensations.

The art of aging

Rhum J.M along with Rhum Clement and the recently acquired St Lucia Distillers are part of the GBH (Groupe Bernard Hayot) Spirit Division. Spiribam will be able to count on the excellent team culture that reigns within our company as well as our attention to quality customer service. Our company sizes are certainly quite different, but our values and our common family business culture, deeply rooted in our operating styles, are so close that our merger is perfectly natural. ”
