About this deal

We’ve read many reports from owners on problems with the Stebel Nautilus Compact, so until someone can convince us that the issues have been resolved, these get a “Not Recommended” rating. It would be nearly impossible to mount anyway on the slim GT1000 and who knows how it would sound when the horn was pointed downwards, to keep out water, as the instructions indicate. Below is a list of the best loud car horn upgrades that are direct replacements and some of the loudest available. The Best Loud Car Horn Upgrades

At first glance I noticed the air ports on the S horn were not covered and were exposed to the outside of the engine. I compared it to my HD horn and found the HD horn had a chrome metal housing covering the air ports. I went ahead with the installation thinking nothing more of it. The original spade connectors that were connected to the horn should be connected to terminals 85 and 86 of the relay; The Nautilus comes supplied with an uprated relay and general fitting instructions. Will require an additional fuse and length of wire between the battery and the relay (not supplied). And the Stebel Nautilus Compact, also covered in this comparison, was dead on arrival — it did not work even for an instant, and it was brand new, right out of the box.At 4.5 inches wide, 4.5 inches tall and 3 inches deep, there are not many places you can hide it It also weighs 1-1/4 pounds. I'm pretty sure that this is the way I wired my Stebel. To be on the safe side, test the circuits with a voltmeter. I would estimate the Stebel horn on the VFR has seen roughly 15,000 miles from sweltering summers to cold winters and wet spring/autumn days. Our Stebel Nautilus Compact was inoperative right out of the box, so Stebel has some work to do on the quality of these horns. Not recommended.

I have two, one that has been on a ’96 Honda VFR750 for a little more than two years and one that I just recently installed on a ’07 Buell XB12S.

Aftermarket Car Horn Comparison

Owning a digital multimeter is really handy for installing components such as a horn. This device will help you find continuity within wires if you cannot seem to power up the horn. Please Note - As with many of our electrical components, we recommend seeking fitting from a qualified auto-electrician to ensure a safe and correct fitting of your new Stebel Horn. We are un-able to offer free fitting with the sale of this product. From “P.A.” (06/2011):“I’ve had the same Stebel Nautilus Compact horn on my ’95 FLHT bagger since 2006. It has worked flawlessly.

If you are new to installing car horns, then don’t worry, it’s fairly easy to do. It’s more a matter of finding everything and connecting everything properly. Hint Two: adding a small piece of aluminum or steel “L” (a.k.a. angle iron) with a hole for the mounting bolt will prevent the horn bouncing off if the bolt loosens Star washers and jam nuts are a good addition. Conclusion Based on this and our experience with the other Stebel Nautilus we tried, we can only give this Nautilus a “Not Recommended”. The majority of loud car horns are simple upgrades that don’t require a compressor for producing a loud noise. However, some may require small adjustments depending upon your vehicle but overall, its an easy modification.Keeps it hidden from both the elements and prying eyes. Photos here and here. Has worked flawlessly.”
