About this deal

The remarkably powerful Quad-Core CPU that the DS1517+ arrives with is an excellent multi-tasking and single task NAS. Those who are familiar with the Synology software and the Synology range will take one look at this unit and what it can do and fall in love! Also, arriving with either 2GB or 8GB or DDR3 memory (which can be expanded further to 16GB!!!) whatever you did in your previous desktop Synology NAS, the DS1517+ and DS1817+ will do it better!

Although this might not be the cheapest 5-Bay NAS in the market, the Synology DS1517+ NAS is the go-to NAS server for Mac users, those who want a streamlined and user-friendly UI and most importantly of all, the people who want a NAS that sits there doing the job it needs and don;t want to tinker. An excellent NAS server and some fantastic product output buy the joint best NAS providers of 2017. Modified HDD hibernation mechanism to prevent HDDs from entering hibernation when a volume is degraded, crashed, or not created. Taipei, Taiwan—April 14, 2015—Synology ® today launched the new DiskStation DS1515, a powerful and expandable 5-bay NAS offering a high-performance, reliable, and full-featured network attached storage solution for growing small and medium-sized businesses. This particular module only features a single 10Gbps BASE-T port and fits only the DS1522+. However, future servers will likely also have this slot, and chances are we'll find SFP+ modules or those with more than two ports going forward. Here is a table with Synology RAM modules for NAS listed that are available at the end of January 2019. Synology SKU Fixed an issue where iSCSI Manager might not open for the incompatible format of iSCSI LUN configuration files set up before DSM 5.2. Adjusted the LED indicator for drives' health status. When a drive's health status is critical or failing, the indicator will show static orange.

Maximum Internal Raw Capacity: 30TB (6TB HDD x5) (Capacity may vary by RAID types) (See All Supported HDD) Fixed an issue where enabling the "Collect debug logs" option for SMB might result in excessive system space usage.

Starting from DSM 6.2, the USB device drivers, including printers, cloud printers, DAC/speakers, Wi-Fi dongles, DTV dongles, LTE dongles, and Bluetooth dongles will no longer be updated. The DS1522+ is the first in the family to run DSM 7.1 out of the box -- previous servers originally came with DSM 6. Fixed an issue where the date and time formats for scheduled tasks were inconsistent in the widget and system settings. Changed the default option for system date and time format settings to YYYY-MM-dd and HH:mm respectively. The Synology DS218+ comes with pre-installed 2 GB DDR3L RAM that is expandable up to 6 GB. Option 1 – Expanding to 6GB

Users of HD6500 can now create a Btrfs volume of up to 1 PB. This update automatically converts existing volumes that use the Btrfs (Peta Volume) file system to Btrfs. However, to create a volume larger than 200 TB, a RAID 6 storage pool and at least 64 GB of system memory are still required. Fixed the issue where the application permissions settings might not be applied properly to the Domain Users group when such group in Windows AD domain was named other than "Domain Users".

What’s New in DSM 6.0

Enhanced the stability of SSD caches when multiple processes are accessing the same cache at the same time. The Synology DS1515+ and DS1815+ come with pre-installed 2GB of RAM that can be removed from the NAS.

Fixed the issue where shared folders could not be accessed via the SMB protocol if the smb.conf file was manually modified for Final Cut Pro X. Fixed an issue where the system might send incorrect port forwarding notifications after a restart. Fixed the issue where the Synology NAS equipped with NVMe device might be woken up from hibernation by the update of NVMe device's health status cache. In the first of our enterprise workloads, we measured a long sample of random 4k performance with 100% write and 100% read activity using the SMB protocol. The DS1513+ was in line with the DS1515+ (Reds) in terms of write functions (532 IOPS and 546 IOPS, respectively), but it fell short in read functions, which were best in the DS1515+ loaded with Reds (365 IOPS). When configured in iSCSI, the DS1515+ loaded with Reds claimed the top spot in both read and write functions, with 1412 IOPS and 299 IOPS, respectively (although the standings were fairly even overall). The new server has no SFP+ or dual 10Gbps Ethernet option, for now, which can be a deal-breaker for those needing one. There are number of new features such as the improved BTRFS file system, DSM software collaboration tools and PCIe options that have been added or improved upon since this unit was released and are either not available on this older 2015 NAS or are supported in a much more limited fashion. Once again, do not buy the DS1515+ if you want to take advantage of the software and hardware innovations fo the last 2 years.
