About this deal

The larger the driver, the more air they can move to not only to make louder sounds, but it also allows them to produce a wider, more nuanced range of frequencies—which happens to take us to our next specification. Audeze is best known for high-end headphones that use planar magnetic drivers, a different audio technology from the cone and dome drivers used by most headphones and headsets. Planar magnetic drivers deliver delicious sound, but they're also generally more expensive than conventional drivers, which is why you rarely see them outside of some audiophiles' collections. The Audeze Penrose is one of the few gaming headsets that uses those drivers, and it sounds fantastic. Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands) may take longer to reach you.

Now while surround sound on a headset is cool, it's not exactly the same as having a real multi-speaker system, like some of the best soundbars offer. In fact, the majority of gaming headsets employ virtual surround sound—which is to say they're faking it with mathematical algorithms.

Don't judge me, but I've lost my fair share of headset microphones in my career, but I'm not a huge fan of leaving the mic in front of my face all day when it's not in use. A flip-up mic is a much better option, so glad to see one make the cut with the HS55. Many gaming headsets and sound cards come with a “virtual surround” feature, which aims to provide a more accurate sense of space to your gaming audio. If you’re on the fence about whether the feature is worthwhile, though, there are virtual surround apps that will add the feature to your current headphones, for free or a small price. Compatibility: PS5, PC, Xbox | Connectivity: 3.5mm | Drivers: high-fidelity 28-ohm drivers | Battery Life: N/A | Weight: 290g The HyperX Cloud 2/Cloud II is a very well-built wired gaming headset that's impressively comfortable but has a recessed treble that makes your audio sound less detailed. It also doesn't have an app with sound customization features, unlike the Logitech G432.

That impressive battery life is, of course, a best-case scenario. A lot of that has to do with the volume you're running the headset at, and volume is probably my only real complaint. It's absolutely loud enough but I can listen to it at full volume and still be fairly comfortable. Frequency response is another important spec, and it's the range of frequencies the headset can reproduce. On the low-end, most gaming headsets hit a minimum of 20Hz and a maximum of 20,000Hz. As you go from the bottom of the range to the top, sounds go from a low thud to a warm, steady hum and finally a piercing screech. The HD 650 is a prime advocate of the so-called "Sennheiser sound". That means it excels at the high-end and delivers superb clarity and definition right the way through the frequency range. I've found it is definitely lighter on the bass response compared to most gaming headsets and planar magnetics, though, and whether that flatter sound works will have to be up to you .

The Nuraphone is, simply put, a beautifully designed headset with a lovely compromise of silicone and stainless steel. It's simple, modern, and isn't embarrassing to wear in public. The minimalist design gives me plenty of Bose NC Headphones 700 vibes with its slim headband and roomy ear cups. Compatibility: PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch | Connectivity: Wired | Drivers: 50mm Neodymium dynamic drivers | Surround sound modes: QuantumSPHERE 360, DTS Headphone X: v2.0 | Weight: 369g The microphone sounds great, anyways, and that's what really counts here. I'm really impressed with just how clear the HS55's microphone is: the subtle tones and nuance of my voice's luscious timbre (in my opinion) come through accurately in testing, which you can listen to below. There's a surprising level of clarity in this mic, even in the lower ranges, and it's a really great solution for a budget headset.

The line between gaming headsets and headphones has blurred significantly in recent years. There are still distinct differences between the peripherals that make one better for gaming and the other ideal for listening to audio. We discuss those below. Due to working with PCs and what not, I'm reviewing the USB model which has a fixed USB Type-A cable and comes with a USB Type-C adapter in the box and has absolutely no issues. For people much cooler than me there's even an incredibly uncommon analog XLR option, which feels like it goes further to show off audio reverence in these devices. It's the same microphone and boom arm construction you'll find on any number of Sennheiser Gaming/Epos headsets today, but that's not such a bad thing. The flip-to-mute function is great and it keeps the mic arm comfortably away from my face during use or when stowed away. It's a little bendy too and its position is able to be ever so slightly tweaked for a better fit. Compatibility: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC/Mac, Nintendo Switch, Mobile | Connectivity: wired | Drivers: 50mm graphene | Weight: 338g

These phrases are much harder to guess and can be used in spicing up your whisper challenge game. The hardest phrases to guess are the ones that are obvious but with a little twist. For example, “I lord You” instead of “I love you.”You'll notice something slightly different about the Nuraphones from the images below, and I'm sure you're already asking, 'what's the point of those thingson the inside?' Battery life should also come into consideration. Of course, it’s a nonissue on wired headsets, while many wireless headsets offer a decent battery life, lasting 25+ hours, making recharging less of a chore. Their default sound profile is neutral, so elements like footsteps, explosions, and voices in cutscenes are reproduced accurately. You can also use their app's EQ presets for sound customization. These headphones support Dolby Atmos, a virtual surround sound feature to make your listening experience more immersive. They come with a USB dongle with a low-latency connection, so your audio and video will stay in sync while gaming. You have plenty of options for connecting to your console or PC. This headset/mic combination doesn't disappoint on either spec, delivering amazing sound quality and recording that'll see your desktop mic gathering dust.
