About this deal

The Mesh 2.0 technology and improved audio quality helped iron out the previous issues with the Sena line-up, giving me a much more enjoyable rider experience. I have a lot invested in these systems and do not have resources to go to another system or I would. I’d never recommend Sena systems to anyone. WHile they work, they are great and the 50Rs work great until they do not. Now they do not. I get a low battery report after having used it an hour. REALLY! With my Samsung Galaxy S10 paired to the Sena, I’m able to listen to music or the FM radio, and the TomTom interrupts to give directions, the entire message usually being clearly spoken. The 50S comes with a large Jog Dial which is glove-friendly, whereas the 50R is a low profile unit with a trio of buttons. Any riding enthusiast knows how annoying it is to communicate with people in your vicinity with your helmet on. You either struggle to understand what they are saying and vice versa.

The 50S delivers not one, but three different intercom modes available to Sena riders: Multi-Channel Open Mesh Intercom™, Group Mesh Intercom™, and Bluetooth Intercom. As an avid motorcycle enthusiast, going on long tours with my friends is one of my all-time favorite activities during the year. However, communicating with each other during the ride can be quite a task, especially when the group is large. The favoured Schuberth C3 Pro is the first host for the Sena 50R system. After undoing the bottom front side snaps and separating the left and right liners from the inner shell wall (3 snap-in fasteners), the existing 30K headset is removed. After going through the various features and specifications of the 50S and the 50R, I had to try both of them to help me understand which product was better. I managed to get my hands on both models while on a road trip with my friends.

Here’s the deal. I have to go without service for two weeks minimum while sena decides on something. They want me to produce the sales receipt. I got them from them through upgrade. Why did I upgrade, because the 20SEVOs didn’t work any better and I hoped against hope these would be different. So why do I need to produce anything. They have the info. Same crap as I got with the20S EVOs

For installation and testing uniformity, another Schuberth C3 Pro, also in the Echo colourway, is the first host for the Sena 50S. I’ve been a Sena user since the pre-USB SMH10 days. I have thousands of hours using their devices. I currently own 2 10S units, 2 20S EVO units (with Sena HD speakers), 2 Cavalry half helmets, and 2 SR10 Bluetooth adapters. All of my Sena devices are running their latest firmware. There are 10 station preset slots that you can access by saying ‘Hey Sena, next’ or ‘previous’, by pressing the jog dial then rotating it, or through the app. Despite having very similar features and specifications, I personally preferred the Sena 50S to the Sena 50R thanks to the addition of the ambient audio feature and better battery life. It also boasts of a number of models that are designed to work well with other Bluetooth modules, making it a great buy for large riding groups.

When the 50R is ON, hold the centre button for ten seconds, ‘Configuration Menu’ is heard, now push the ‘+’ button once, ‘Phone Pairing’ is heard. Initiate pairing per the sequence above. Bluetooth Intercom Pairing A feature not found on the Sena 50S is another often-used capability, but one that a lot of users of Sena systems so equipped don’t even know is there or even know how to use it, particularly in situations where its function is so valuable. It will also have to accommodate an increased range of a mile or more and integrate mesh technology to allow for seamless communication.

Using the direct input controls or the Sena Device Manager does provide alternative means to configure and manage the Series 50 systems, but so far, the Sena 50 Utility App is proving to be the best way – it’s an absolute gem. Motorcycle Bluetooth headsets must have a dedicated antenna designed to increase the range and detect riders who are further away. They should also have an app that offers seamless connectivity and multiple features. Hey SIRI. Works 99% of the time if I speak directly into my iPhone 8 mic. Fails 99% of time when speaking via the 50S. This is a HUGE FAIL. I even tried to re-setup SIRI using the 50S mic. No joy. The new audio experience for Sena systems is finally here. And even when factoring in the audio-related factors we experience while riding, the new HD speakers are outstanding. The additional audio tweaking provided by the Audio Equalizer settings under the Sena 50 Utility App is icing on the cake; tuning a helmet audio environment is seldom a bad thing.
