About this deal

The game offers several difficulty levels, huge variability and a unique experience for one to five player teams. One mission lasts only about 30 minutes, including setup and evaluation. The threat of space weather to national infrastructure, UK industry and the wider public is such that in 2011 it was added to the Government National Risk Register of Civil Emergencies. In response, the Met Office Space Weather Operations Centre (MOSWOC) was created to provide the critical information needed to help protect the country from the serious threats posed by severe space weather events. What causes space weather? Assuming clear dark skies, there is an increased chance of seeing the aurora tomorrow evening and on 12 th November. Those in Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland have the best chance if the weather is favourable. You can only disable these low disk space messages by changing a setting in the Windows Registry. This is a system-wide change, so Windows won't warn you about low disk space on any of your drives after you change it. CME or Coronal Mass Ejection The eruption of a portion of the outer atmosphere of the Sun into space, caused by rapid changes in its magnetic field. Often occurs along with a solar flare.

Video showing the CME leaving the Sun on 9 th November. Movie is generated using Helioviewer.org with images from SOHO/LASCO (ESA/NASA) and the Solar dynamics Observatory satellite (NASA). Space weather is a consequence of the behaviour of the Sun, the nature of Earth’s magnetic field and atmosphere, and our location in the solar system. The active elements of space weather are particles, electromagnetic energy and magnetic fields, rather than the more commonly known weather contributors of water, temperature and air. Magnetic fields, radiation, particles and matter which have been ejected from the Sun can interact with the Earth’s magnetic field and upper atmosphere to produce a variety of effects Types of space weather event Space Alert box appears in The Big Bang Theory in episode 11x10 ("The Confidence Erosion"), visible behind Stuart in the Comic Center shop. Solar Wind The ever-present expansion of the Sun’s hot outer atmosphere into the solar system, which carries space weather within it.We are expecting an increase in geomagnetic activity during 11 th and 12 th November due to the arrival of an Earth-directed coronal mass ejection. CMEs). One such eruption occurred early on 27 Nov, and produced a CME which may arrive at Earth either late on 29 Nov or during 30 Nov. A further eruption in the eastern hemisphere will be analysed once sufficient satellite imagery becomes available. My templates started life as some of the examples in the documentation but have diverged quite a bit as I’ve learnt more about the template syntax. I’ve actually managed to get my alerts down to using just three templates - Default, (used by no ICMP response, no SNMP response and Device Rebooted) Disk Space Alert and Services alerts. Disk space is stored internally in bytes - not very useful, so I use number_format() to convert to Gigabytes (proper base 1024 ones ) rounded to two decimal places. You can adjust the number of decimal places by changing the number after the comma.

Space Weather Forecast Headline:Chance of isolated M-class flares. Chance of G1-G2 Minor/Moderate storms with Coronal Mass Ejectionarrival 29 Nov or early 30 Nov. Summary is issued at the end of an event, confirming the start and end time and peak measurement during the event. A CME is the ejection of material from the Sun into interplanetary space. If the material is directed towards the Earth then the event may result in a disturbance to the Earth's magnetic field and ionosphere. Cancellation may be issued when either actual or forecast space weather conditions change to such an extent that the forecaster considers a watch or a warning is no longer valid. Similarly the disk space critical alert will trigger if there is <1GB free and the disk is >=95% full. So for a 20GB or larger drive less than 1GB of free space would trigger this alert but for a drive smaller than 20GB it would need to be 95% or more full. The most recognisable and visible space weather effect is arguably the auroras (Northern and Southern Lights). However, as well as these spectacular natural phenomena, space weather also represents a real threat and can have an impact upon national infrastructure, technology, and communications systems. Primarily intended for 4 or 5 players. 1-3 players is possible within the rules, but far less fun/interesting. Solar Wind / Geomagnetic Activity:Solar wind speeds have been at slightly elevated levels. Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF), was weak, with north-south component also weak and variable in direction. Geomagnetic activity was Quiet (Kp 0-2).

Solar Activity:Activity has been Low, with only a number of C-class flares, the most energetic of these from the large and magnetically complex region in the southeast quadrant. This is one of eleven sunspot regions on the visible disc, with a number of moderately sized regions. In addition there is a proliferation of simple unipolar regions.

Customising the alert templates to get them looking just how I wanted took me a fair bit of time so I thought I’d share my alert templates and some of the alerts I use with them as they might be of use for others. There are two types of threats: external and internal. [5] External threats spawn outside the ship and are usually dealt with by shooting lasers or missiles. Internal threats spawn inside the ship. All threats are categorized as serious or common threats. Serious threats, if not dealt with, usually end in a substantial amount of damage. The game is separated into two rounds, the action round and the resolution round. [3] The action round consists of 10 minutes of gameplay. During this round, the computer announces threats that appear, and the players play cards which allow them to take actions in response to the threats. Each card allows the player to move around the ship, or to take actions (such as firing a laser, supplying energy to a reactor, etc.). [4] After the action round, players complete the resolution round, during which they resolve their actions and determine whether or not they survived the threats. They then calculate their points based on the number of threats handled and the amount of damage their ship sustained.

I see there is a thread from 2017 like this already however it predates the change to the alert template syntax in 2018 (?) so I thought it was probably better to keep this separate. Space Alert relies heavily on teamwork and communication, so playing without VOIP is not recommended.

Space Alert is a cooperative survival designer board game created by Vlaada Chvátil in 2008. [1] Players assume the roles of space explorers on a mission to survey the galaxy. The crew is evaluated on teamwork and how they deal with problems that arise on their journey. Unlike most board games, in Space Alert, players need to make decisions and play cards in real time. It was given a special prize for "New Game Worlds" in the 2009 Spiel des Jahres awards. [2] Gameplay [ edit ] Game Board and Components. Coronal Hole A region in the Sun’s outer atmosphere (corona) where hot material can flow unrestrained by its magnetic fields out into space. Space weather conditions vary. Streams of particles from the Sun carried by the solar wind constantly hit the Earth. During periods of high solar activity, when there are more solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), Earth experiences increased impacts. Extreme events that cause the largest impacts can occur at any time during the 11 year solar cycle. Coronal mass ejection/Solar flares A full halo Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) left the Sun at approximately 10:50 UT on 9 th November 2023, associated with a filament eruption from an Earth-facing active region on the sun. The CME is expected to arrive late on 11 th November and is likely to lead to a significant enhancement in geomagnetic activity, making moderate geomagnetic STORM periods possible. The current solar wind speed is already disturbed due to coronal hole influence. In addition to his extensive writing experience, Chris has been interviewed as a technology expert on TV news and radio shows. He gave advice on dark web scans on Miami's NBC 6, discussed Windows XP's demise on WGN-TV's Midday News in Chicago, and shared his CES experiences on WJR-AM's Guy Gordon Show in Detroit.
