Hydrocortisone is a mild corticosteroid (or steroid) which fights the inflammation that causes redness, swelling and itchiness Do not overwinter diseased fish with ulcers outdoors, or the bacteria will start up before the fish's immune system does. Bring them in and treat them.

Where two folds of skin rub together, chafing can occur, leading to a sore inflamed area of skin. This particularly happens in places such as the groin or under the breasts where frequent sweating occurs. This combination of irritated skin and wetness is called intertrigo. The same condition happens under babies’ nappies and is known as nappy rash. In both intertrigo and nappy rash the inflamed skin is easily infected by germs, in particular a fungus called Candida albicans. Timodine Cream is specially formulated to ease the soreness and treat the infections in intertrigo and inflamed nappy rash. Fish have a body temperature which essentially mirrors that of the environment and the temperature at which they would be expected to freeze and die would be the freezing point of their blood plasma. They have been shown to be able to resist this by 1oC in ways not really understood except in the presence of ice formation. The presence of ice appears to encourage the formation of ice crystals in the skin and circulation, resulting in death.Sudden temperature changes can be lethal so provide a deep area (5-6ft) for the fish to move into if possible. Protect the pond using a frame with polythene cover, if the pond is raised consider insulating the sides. Do not bang on the ice to break it. Melt it with boiling water. Use pond heaters to keep an open section. Carp are by nature a warmwater fish. However they are extremely tolerant and will overwinter perfectly well in unheated ponds. EFSA (2008) suggests that carp will tolerate down to 2oC - actually they will go lower but some will die through stress or superchill. Cushing’s syndrome (a condition where levels of steroid hormone become too high in the body). Symptoms include a puffy and rounded face that is also red, stretch marks and acne.

Timodine Cream can also be used to treat the following skin conditions when there is infection with Candida albicans: Fish with carp pox are best isolated if badly affected and treated occasionally with CHLORAMINE T to keep secondary bacterial infections at bay. Recovery from this viral disease is usually spontaneous as the immune system gets going by June/July. Supplementation with ACE-HIGH is well worthwhile. If any of the above applies to you, or if you are not sure, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before you use Timodine Cream. Tamodine is suitable for cleaning mouth rot lesions in the mouths of reptiles. These are likely also to need antibiotic treatment from a Veterinary Surgeon. A “tamed” version of Iodine this product is the antifungal and antibacterial and is probably the best way of cleaning reptilian wounds – but its not suitable for amphibians. Easy to use, just apply directly to the cut, with cotton wool or a cotton bud – however we would still recommend seeking veterinary advice.For external use only. Wet the surface to be cleansed, apply Tamodine using cotton wool and clean carefully. Rinse thoroughly. Not to be used on open wound at concentration above 1%.
