About this deal

Borrowed Units. Chaos Space Marine armies can run Plague Marines, Rubric Marines, and Berzerkers, and these each have some interesting play in the army.

Let’s jump into some particular goals you might have, and how I’d recommend building in the next section. Word Bearers are known for cavorting with Daemons, and are great fits for running lots of Possessed. You’ll want a Dark Apostle and a Master of Possession if you’re running them, and likely a daemon engine or two in addition to your possessed. The Word Bearers trait is very good for melee units that normally hit on a 3+. Combat Patrols are a viable way to get started with Warhammer 40K and get all you need in one neat box. We take a look at what Warhammer 40K Combat Patrol boxes are on the market and which ones you should or may want to buy. Learn more It’s also looking distinctly chaotic on Warhammer+ this week, with Battle Report showing a clash between the Sons of Horus and the Imperial Fists to demonstrate the new rules for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. There’s also a Citadel Colour Masterclass on smoke effects, while the lore from Psychic Awakening books 4 and 5 come to the Warhammer Vault. In many ways these subfactions were the model for the Detachment system we see in 10th edition; each subfaction had its own stratagems and relics which did not overlap. We expect the Disciples of the Red Angel to return as a World Eaters Detachment in due course for 10th edition.

In 10th edition there are very few restrictions on how you build armies, and two World Eaters Combat Patrols would make an excellent, if infantry-heavy, start to your force. A Dark Apostle leads the combat patrol while reciting passages from a book… that’s on fire. He’s flanked by two dark disciples who are excellent in close quarters combat. Five Havocs are ready to bring the pain with heavy weapons, including an intimidating chaingun. Ten Chaos Space Marines bring a good mix of mid to close range weapons and the patrol is finished with heavy support in the form of a Helbrute that can dish out and take punishment as needed. After one of your units is destroyed within range of an objective marker you control, you retain control of that marker even when you have no models contesting it, until your opponent claims it.

Mobility. Chaos Space Marines have a couple of pretty mobile units and some units that can deep strike, but almost all of their transport options leave something to be desired. As a result, many of your army’s nasty melee threats will have to walk across the table. Known for their stealth tactics and use of Cultist forces seeded and outfitted ahead of their arrival, Alpha Legion work well with most units thanks to being more difficult to hit from a distance, helping them close the gaps. The rules for the Alpha Legion tend to favor versatility and subterfuge, and they have several rules that can apply to Cultists by virtue of just being INFANTRY-keyworded, though you may find they don’t necessarily want to run a ton of cultists. This is a Khorne list so it’s not going to be super complex. You’ve got less options than previously and since we’re assuming you’re starting from scratch and might want to tweak your options later on down the road then Bloodthirsters are where it’s at. Games Workshop tweaked how Bloodthirsters work in the new book and upped their points cost to 310 each. You can make them Exalted which can add either 20, 35, or 40 points depending on which option you choose. The ‘Reborn in Blood’ ability that made him such a pain to (permanently) kill in ninth edition has been reworked. To reincarnate Angron, youneed to spend three sixes from your Blessings of Khorne roll. There’s about a 13% chance of rolling three or more sixes on eight dice. If you’re playing Chaos Space Marines, chances are you’re probably going to need at least two books if you want to really play. We’ve talked about the rules a bit in our general Getting Started article on the rules, but I’ll go into a bit more depth here.

Second, the Combat Patrol versions of each faction’s datasheets army rules are different from their main Index. Datasheets are simpler, and armies have access to different Stratagems, and enhancements. Doom has come upon the Thousand Sons. Born from the Rubric, a curse of fire and dust stalks them across time and space. The spirits of the Rubricae are vanishing from the prisons of their armour in the fourth novel in John French’s Ahriman series. You’ll roll a pool of eight dice each battle round, andactivate up to two different abilities by spending particular combinations of dice. You’re looking for things like a pair of matching dice, a double 4+, any triple, and so on. Once that’s dry, start painting the armour panels in-between the raised armour trim. You can use a matt red, such as GW’s Mephiston Red or Vallejo Model Color Scarlet, or a translucent paint, like GW’s Contrast Flesh Tearers Red or Army Painter Slaughter Red speed paint. Applying translucent red over gold gives a ‘candy red finish’, a lustrous metallic red usually seen on classic sports cars. Finally if you want to bring anything from the Forge World library of Chaos models, such as the Kytan Ravager, Blood Slaughterer of Khorne, or the Hellforged dreadnoughts, you need this book. There’s some cool stuff in there, but it’s not a book that you absolutely need – you can run a perfectly great Chaos army using just the units in the Codex. War Zone Charadon Act II: The Book of Fire Ah, the Blood Angels– noble and civilised sons of Sanguinius, most handsome, tragic, star-crossed and pretty of all the Emperor’s ‘Primarch’ sons. These renaissance Italy-themed space marines are among the most storied and popular chapters of the Adeptus Astartes. We got so excited about Combat Patrol that we couldn’t help but come up with a few army lists, all coming in at around a Power Level of 25. We’re starting with a couple that you can make with the models in the new Indomitus boxed set . Indomitus Necrons

You’ve seen the Armouring of a Space Marine ritual where an iconic piece of Warhammer lore was portrayed as it’s never been seen before. Now, you can learn more about the armour of Warhammer’s most recognisable warriors in this week’s new episode of Loremasters . It breaks down the development of Space Marine Power Armour* from the earliest ‘Thunder Armour’ through the Mark III and Mark IV suits, right up to the Mark X worn by Primaris Space Marines. After one of your units destroys and enemy unit in the fight phase, make a Blessings of Khorne roll and activate a Blessing – it doesn’t count towards the maximum number of activated Blessings. After the traitors’ defeat and the Emperor’s ascension to the Golden Throne, the World Eaters retreated to the eye of terror. Angron was lost entirely to rage, but charismatic and lethal captains such as Khârn of the eighth company held the fighting force together. On the daemon iceworld of Skalathrax madness finally claimed Khârn entirely, earning him the moniker of betrayer – from then on, the legion shattered into myriad warbands. Even one such warband is a world-shattering threat.v They operate as an ‘elite’ army in Warhammer 40k, meaning they tend to field fewer miniatures than their opponents for the same budget of points, but each model can hope to deal out more punishment to the enemy before it gets blown away.
