A. While many adhesive removers contain strong chemicals, they’re usually safe to use if you follow the instructions carefully. Always work in a well-ventilated area, and only apply the remover to substances and surfaces for which it’s approved. Do a spot test before using the adhesive remover even if the surface is listed as workable, just in case you’re mistaken about what the material is.

The remover’s ingredients are formulated to break down the bonds in the residue left on the surface. There are three categories of removers. The first is citrus-based, which uses fruit extract and propane and does well for commercial cleaning. Next is the soy-based version made with soybeans and propane. Depending on the formula you choose, an adhesive remover can be used to clean a variety of messes, such as the following: Commercial glue removers can remove adhesive from wood, particularly ones containing citrus oil. Always be sure to follow directions when using any of these powerful adhesive removers. Protective Wear: When dealing with toxic substances, it is imperative that you use appropriate protective gear. Those with skin or respiratory sensitivities, such as eczema or asthma, may find that wearing a mask and gloves are necessary. You should also wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after use. It’s also advised to use any chemical substances in a well-ventilated area, and not when pets and children are around.

General tips

Apply the solvent onto the stained surface, soaking the cement residue. Keep in mind that, even though the solvent is quite powerful, it won’t damage your hard surfaces. Plastic, on the other hand, could be an issue, so make sure not to go overboard with the solvent. Adhesive, graffiti and gum removers are usually low-odour (some may have a fresh citrus fragrance) and water washable, with most available in liquid or paste form. Paste products are ideal for vertical surfaces to avoid drips and product run. What are adhesive, graffiti and gum removers used for? Place the item you’re cleaning on newspaper or plastic sheeting. This will protect other surfaces from the adhesive remover. Two part systems are quite satisfying to clean off. Before they are fully cured, take the edge of a metal spatula and remove the soft excess outside of the joint. You can clean further with a paper towel and IPA / MEK if necessary. Though baking soda with coconut oil is often considered a good natural glue-removing method, if you have tried this and other homemade solutions to no avail, it’s time to try an adhesive remover that’s specifically designed for the task. Similarly, if you’ve only spilled the part A or part B of a 2-part epoxy, there is no need to hurry. However, if a two component epoxy has been mixed, you’ll want to clean it up before it sets.
