About this deal

Isabella studied at the University of Cape Town in South Africa and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English Literature & Language and Psychology. Throughout her undergraduate years, she took Art History as an additional subject and absolutely loved it. Building on from her art history knowledge that began in high school, art has always been a particular area of fascination for her. From learning about artworks previously unknown to her, or sharpening her existing understanding of specific works, the ability to continue learning within this interesting sphere excites her greatly. You could also use these posters alongside 'Atticus and the Ancient Greeks', using the story as a hook to bring your teaching to life. The book is supported by a wide range of resources too - these posters are just one that's available to you.

An Olympian god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness, religious ecstasy and theatre. A wind god (Anemoi) and Greek god of the cold north wind and the bringer of winter. Referred to as “The North Wind”. The deadliest monster in Greek mythology and “Father of All Monsters”. Last son of Gaia, fathered by Tartarus and god of monsters, storms, and volcanoes. He challenged Zeus for control of Mount Olympus. The poetry of Ovid exerted a great effect on the psyche of poets and painters with the rediscovery of ancient antiquity in Greek Renaissance art and remained a vital inspiration in the transmission and interpretation of Greek mythology art. Greek mythology paintings were not only particularly popular throughout the Renaissance but they also reappeared during the Classical periods of the 18th and 19th centuries. Gustave Moreau’s oil-on-canvas painting, produced in 1864, is a new take on the fabled meeting between the two mythical characters on the route to Delphi, which was famously depicted in Sophocles’ play Oedipus Rex. Oedipus discovered that the king, Laius, had lately been murdered and that the kingdom was at the whim of the sphinx during his trek between Delphi and Thebes. Each poster includes an illustration of the god or goddess, what they're known as, who their parents are and what symbols they're associated with. There's also a description of the god or goddess featured too, so these posters would look great as part of an informative display.

Poseidon is the God of the Sea, as well as the god of earthquakes and horses. He is often seen holding a trident, which is a spear with three prongs. For example, you could use these pictures to create a fun, imaginative display in your classroom that dives into the wonderful topic of Ancient Greek history and Greek mythology. Alternatively, you may wish to use these pictures as prompt cards for a unique creative writing activity. Perfect to use as a creative reference point. You can take this further by having children design their own shields - like the one held by Achilles in the poster - using this activity sheet. Her father’s artistic technique, as well as that of his renowned partner, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, impacted Artemisia Gentileschi’s works, which are distinguished by the dramatic juxtaposition of light and dark as well as distinctive, striking compositions. Many of the gods and goddesses carried some human features, making their messages and area of life that they represented more real and relatable. The painting was completed in 1612 and was a joint effort with another well-known artist, Frans Snyders. A fisherman who became immortal upon eating a magical herb, an Argonaut who may have built and piloted the Argo, and became a god of the sea.

In the center of the canvas, the goddess Venus, also known as Aphrodite in Greek mythology, is vividly displayed. Aphrodite was the goddess of beauty, love, and procreation in Greek mythology. On either side of Aphrodite, there are other Greco-Roman deities. These include the wind deity Zephyr, as well as others, although historians and critics disagree over the identities of these gods and goddesses. Venus and Cupid (c. 1630) by Artemisia Gentileschi; Artemisia Gentileschi, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons Polyphemos fell into a furious frenzy after discovering the two young lovers together and squashed the youngster beneath a boulder. The nymph, overcome with sadness, changed her youthful lover into a river. Raphaelchose to represent the nymph’s apogee while atop a shell-chariot pulled by two dolphins in the picture.
