About this deal

Philips’ latency of their premium TVs has always lagged behind their competitors, but that should change in 2021. The percentage of the approximate area, taken by the active part of the screen, to the total front area. Information about the maximum vertical viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality. No matter which picture setting you go for, we’d recommend switching off most of the extra processing or setting it to low, and adjusting from there if you need to – apart from motion processing, which you’ll want to switch on.

But make the right adjustments and the endpoint is a lovely picture. Sharpness and detail remain two of the set's greatest strengths, but its colour balance is also delightfully well-judged. We suspect that the tone is just a little richer than is truly neutral, but the resulting picture is so pleasant that we could hardly call that a flaw. What's more, this Philips still records a startlingly high 940 nits (albeit in Vivid mode) on a white 10 per cent HDR window, which is in the same ball park as those aforementioned new high-brightness sets. Crucially, however, the TV only sustains its peak brightness momentarily before dropping to around 770 nits, suggesting that Philips is briefly 'overdriving' highlights to deliver a punchier HDR experience without damaging the panel. The latest and most complicated version of Philips’ already pretty complicated P5 picture processing takes care of quality. It’s AI-assisted and, quite apart from the fearsome amount of processing it gets through, it brings Philips’ cutting-edge anti burn-in technology down from the flagship models and into the mainstream. The Apple TV app is missing from Android TV entirely, which is disappointing but of little surprise. While neither is as good, you can at least get your pay-as-you-go movie streaming fix from Google Play Movies & TV or Rakuten, both of which support HDR10 via the Philips.

So, what do we know about the set itself? It will feature a "razor thin, zero bezel" design, keeping things sleek and focused on the picture itself. Unlike the OLED 856, which comes with a "wedge mount metal dark chrome T bar stand", the OLED 806 will feature a rather ordinary pair of feet to balance it on a counter. Advancements over the 2020 OLED+935 include HDMI 2.1 capability that makes this OLED better suited for gaming, while the OS is Android TV 10 (no confirmation as to whether Google TV is coming yet). Some will accept these occasional flaws as a fair trade for what is otherwise excellent processing. For others, those flaws will be too distracting and, if so, the new Pure Cinema motion setting could be for you. This results in slightly smoother and sharper motion than is produced by simply turning the processing off entirely (the only option on last year’s sets) with none of the shimmer you get from the more aggressive processing options. It's still not perfect, though, and the long and the short of it is that some rivals, particularly Sony and Panasonic, still offer better overall motion processing.

Its mid-range price should tell you this, but there are some compromises to be made in picture quality, mostly with HDR footage. In particular, shadow and highlight detail can be lost in the very darkest and lightest areas of a picture, and overall peak brightness could be brighter.DCI P3 is a color space, introduced in 2007 by the SMPTE. It is used in digital cinema and has a much wider gamut than the sRGB. The interface is clean and easy enough to navigate. It’s not the most intuitive, nor the most clearly laid out but it’s really not the clunky experience that you may have seen before – it’s much smoother and faster than the Android TV of yore. some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online)
