About this deal

Simply add 10ml of Uncle Tom’s Rose Tonic to 1lt of water and apply as a drench or rose spray – contains potassium phosphite fertiliser, free from additives, wetters and dyes. These can sadly often do more harm than good and are a poor choice for wildlife and the environment. As soon as spring arrives, plants start into vigorous growth and that needs to be supported by moisture from the soil, but also from plenty of nutrition. So, plant feeding is really crucial in the spring. Applying Sulphur rose will ensure your roses remain healthy and produce a fabulous display of flowers all summer long. Simply apply to the stems, foliage and surrounding soil.

This wild growth will look different, being a lime green leaf colour with a matt finish, which can overtake the growth of the correct grafted rose and eventually kill off the grafted part of the rose if not controlled.

One interesting thing that goes on below the soil around roses is that roses form a symbiosis with mycorrhizae, which form fungal networks stretching out from the roots of the roses into the surrounding soil. 1 Mycorrhizal Fungi. (n.d.). David Austin Roses. Retrieved March 20, 2023, from https://www.davidaustinroses.co.uk/products/david-austin-mycorrhizal-fungi Tomorite also works well and is one of the cheapest and most readily available. Simply dilute to half the strength recommended on the bottle for Tomatoes. It is impossible to guarantee all plants are free of the pests as eggs are so small they cannot be seen with the naked eye, it takes less than 2 days for an aphid egg to become an egg laying adult and the female eggs are already pregnant before they hatch so it’s no wonder population numbers of greenfly and aphids can suddenly explode all over your roses! Severe infestations can actually weaken flowering stems so much that the flower buds simply wither away and don’t open. Uncle Tom's Rose Tonic contains potassium phosphite fertiliser and is free from additives, wetters and dyes.

once the petals of the flowers start to turn brown after fully opening and flowering they need removing, ideally before the petals fall to the ground to trigger your rose in to re-flowering again. When roses are growing in the soil, they can tap into the resources present in the soil in which they grow since, thanks to mycorrhizae, they can draw on nutrients even beyond their own root systems.

This means that they can often be content with much less feeding than roses that are grown in containers, confined beds or planters. The mulch not only protects the soil and provides slow-release fertility throughout the summer as the mulch breaks down, but it also helps to suppress weed growth, thereby ensuring that roses do not have as much competition to contend with and are able to grow strong. References These plants are somewhat fussier than wild roses and are very hungry plants that often need additional feeding to perform at their best.

Bareroot plants
