Writerṣ Tears” is a unique old Irish Pot still Whiskey. It is a vatting of Single Malt and Single Pot Still whiskeys. Distilled from 60% malt and 40% pot Still (No Grain). Writers Tears is triple distilled, non -peated and matured and aged in American Oak bourbon casks.

Writers' Tears is an unusual blend for Ireland in that no grain whiskey is used. Instead, this is a blend of triple distilled Single Malt and triple distilled Single Pot Still whiskey, both of which have been sourced from Bushmills and Midleton respectively. The blend is roughly 60% malt and 40% pot still and the grain is unpeated.

The Walshes introduced The Irishman Irish cream liqueur in 2005, and the following year, having secured a supply deal with Midleton distillery, The Irishman brand pivoted towards independent whiskey bottling with the launch of The Irishman Founders Reserve whiskey. On the nose: Quite a green and spicy nose. Green apples, lemon thyme, green wood and pot still spice. Honey sweetness comes through in time with malt and a hint of mint. Light milk chocolate notes with new leather too.On the nose: Slightly floral but very fruity – orchard fruit abundant, apples, a hint of peach and loads of stewed pears. Vanilla, white grape too. Some spice builds with cinnamon and nutmeg along with some caramel sweetness. Away from the writers’ enjoyment of a dram, the Irish whiskey barons were rebelling against the emergence of what they saw as inferior grain from Coffey Stills. The barons were protective of the traditions that had made their success possible and at that time, one whiskey style was held high above all others. Known as the ‘champagne of Irish whiskey’ it was a master blend of pot still and malt whiskeys, both distilled in copper pots. It was enjoyed by many of the great Irish writers of the day… of course less for its inspirational qualities than its full-bodied, flavoursome taste and creamy texture! It was said that they enjoyed it so much, that when they cried, their tears were of whiskey.
