About this deal

Flashing headlights. Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users. Rule 111 Research suggests that the presence of cycle lanes may encourage drivers to overtake cyclists more closely than they would if the lane wasn’t there. Ludlow’s historic town centre could be closed to general traffic to improve facilities for pedestrians.

Unseparated cycle lanes can help grow cycle use from a low base, provided motor-traffic speeds and volumes are low enough and the lanes are sufficiently wide to take account of car doors being negligently opened in a cyclist's path. If you have to stop in a tunnel, leave at least a 5-metre gap between you and the vehicle in front.Example, going down the hill on the one way system you can turn left into a two way street called st George's quay. Around the bend and a little bit further (until the pedestrian bridge mixed use route) there's a red cycle way marked on the left of the road. Today a guy was riding it against the flow. To me that is wrong because it's got a dashed line, it's part of the road and there's no markings informing users that it's use is 2 way. Plus it's narrow.

Hazard warning lights. These may be used when your vehicle is stationary, to warn that it is temporarily obstructing traffic. Never use them as an excuse for dangerous or illegal parking. You MUST NOT use hazard warning lights while driving or being towed unless you are on a motorway or unrestricted dual carriageway and you need to warn drivers behind you of a hazard or obstruction ahead. Only use them for long enough to ensure that your warning has been observed. Thank you very much, so that means, the contraflow cycle lane ONLY allows unidirectional traffic flow(i.e. against the oncoming traffic) unless this is a dual carriageway with bidirectional traffic, which may have a bidirectional cycle lane as well.Next is to look at creating segregated cycle lanes, improved crossings and an extended 20mph speed limit for a route following Oak Street, York Street, Liverpool Road, Old Fort Road, Wat’s Drive and Coppice Drive. If contraflow means going against grain, then with-flow simply means travelling in the same direction as normal traffic. Be careful not to mix the two up, especially when identifying signs: the difference between contraflow and with-flow bus and cycle lane signs is that the latter don’t have arrows—everyone is travelling the same way. Roads including Beatrice Street, Leg Street and Castle Street could also see 20mph limits imposed, along with traffic reduction measures. I don't know anything about the history of this, unless its origins are in the time long ago when I routinely objected that one-way street TROs should have an exception for cyclists

Be considerate. Be careful of and considerate towards all types of road users, especially those requiring extra care (see Rule 204).

The proposals exclude sections of Fulham Road and Kensington High Street maintained by Transport for London. One-way streets are generally designed to keep traffic moving, but tend to disadvantage cyclists. They might be forced to use busy routes and dangerous junctions. Because of this, bike users may be tempted to ignore the signs and get round the restrictions by cycling the other way along the pavement—which puts pedestrians at risk. Where cycle lanes are introduced, the absolute minimum width is 1.5 metres, but 2 metres is preferred and essential at higher speeds (exceptions to this may be necessary through protected cycle by-passes or to pass stationary traffic at junctions). Anything less than 1.5 metres (minimum) deprives cyclists of road space and encourages traffic to pass too close. You MUST NOT drive on or over a pavement, footpath or bridleway except to gain lawful access to property, or in the case of an emergency. Police stopping procedures. If the police want to stop your vehicle they will, where possible, attract your attention by

Brakes affected by water. If you have driven through deep water your brakes may be less effective. Test them at the first safe opportunity by pushing gently on the brake pedal to make sure that they work. If they are not fully effective, gently apply light pressure while driving slowly. This will help to dry them out. Rule 122 One of the reasons is the ostensible “temporary” nature of these projects. “The problem with large infrastructural projects to date is that you have to dig down to put them in, it involves messing around with utilities, undertaking large civil works,” Reidy says. A similar proposal is put forward for the route along Claypit Street and Alport Road, improving access to the hospital. If you’re going to have to join the road with motorists anyway, often you might as well stay on the road rather than use a cycle path for a short distance only then to be dumped out onto a footpath before having to join the road again…Stopping distances. Drive at a speed that will allow you to stop well within the distance you can see to be clear.
