The Coalition sees development opportunities in a low-carbon climate-resilient economy, and stand ready to support it. They are committed to taking action individually and collaboratively, engage the Vietnamese public on the opportunities and urgency, and work constructively with the Vietnamese government to identify and put in place the policies that will allow subnational and non-state actors to help the country meet its climate goals. Former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Judge Navi Pillay, has accepted to Chair the panel leading the independent review which was announced on 4 March into allegations raised in the media in the context of WWF’s conservation work. The inspiration for this logo came from an giant panda called Chi-Chi which was sent to the London Zoo from China in 1961, the same year that the WWF was being formed. As they were aware of the fact that they required a strong and recognizable symbol which would overcome all cultural and language barriers, the WWF’s early founders agreed on making the giant panda it’s official mascot. The first sketches of this logo were created by Gerald Watterson, a British environmentalist and artist. Based on these initial designs, Sir Peter Scott (one of the founding members of the WWF) penned down the final logo. Although the overall design has been updated several times since it’s inception, the panda remained relatively unchanged. Yolanda Kakabadse’s work with the environmental conservation movement officially began in 1979, when she was appointed Executive Director of Fundación Natura in Quito, where she worked until 1990. Dr. Adil Najam is a global public policy scholar whose teaching, research and public engagement focuses on international environment and conservation policy with a particular emphasis on climate change, on global governance, and on international and human development. An active researcher, he was a lead author for the Third and Fourth Assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and has written over 100 scholarly papers and book chapters. Neville Isdell is the former chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company where he worked for 43 years. Neville took the world’s largest beverage company to new heights during his tenure. He expanded on the company’s proud legacy of corporate responsibility by embedding sustainability throughout every facet of the organization and helping ensure its role as a community-connected twenty-first century enterprise.
Neville Isdell serves on the boards and executive committees of a number of NGOs, including Peace Parks Foundation and World Wildlife Fund, where he was also formerly chairman. Mr. Isdell was also former co-chair of the Investment Climate Facility for Africa and a former member of the Board of Directors of General Motors. He is a recipient of the Clinton Global Citizen Award and received the 2008 Ellis Island Medal of Honor - International. Adil Najam holds a PhD (in environmental policy) and two master’s degrees (in technology policy and in environmental engineering) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a Specialization in Negotiation from the Program on Negotiation at the Harvard Law School, and a bachelor’s of engineering degree from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Pakistan. WWF says the High Seas Treaty is necessary to implement the Global Biodiversity Framework, which commits countries to protect and conserve at least 30% of the ocean, and ensure 30% of degraded areas are under restoration, by 2030. Leaders from the private sector and civil society in Vietnam have come together to call for climate action 23 August 2019 | Ho Chi Minh City, VIETNAM – As world leaders get ready to meet in New York at the Climate Summit convened by the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres in September, Vietnamese leaders from businesses, financial institutions, universities, communities and civil society established the Vietnam Coalition for Climate Action (VCCA), vowing to accelerate low-carbon development in Vietnam powered by renewable energy and its co-benefits for cities, rural communities as well as farmers to help the country deliver on its climate goals. Only through a win-win collaboration among the national government, subnational and non-state actors and citizens, Vietnam can create prosperity while urgently reducing its greenhouse gas emissions.
The Coalition will focus on key sectors of the economy, starting with the energy sector which is both critical for Vietnam's long-term development and currently responsible for the largest share of the country's greenhouse gas emissions. The Coalition's action-oriented focus will include championing the massive adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures by commercial and residential buildings, in collaboration with the Million Green Homes Initiative. At the same time, the Coalition will also promote different programs such as smart cities, green production and dual use of agriculture land and renewable energy.

The actions of the Coalition are facilitated by GreenID and WWF-Vietnam, under the umbrella of Alliances for Climate Action and with partial financial support of the SHIFT SEA Project. The Coalition is a member of Alliances for Climate Action, a global network of domestic multi-stakeholder coalitions committed to supporting the delivery and enhancement of their countries' climate goals and collaborating to build the groundswell of climate action across the world.
