About this deal

The individual Product Design coursework (NEA) will begin in year 12, allowing students to choose an area of interest and investigate, create, test and refine the functionality of a chosen 3D product to solve a real life problem. Students are supported to become independent learners and will gain an understanding of, and simulate the work of professional designers in their project work by project managing their own coursework. This is a challenging activity including independent research visits and conducting interviews with specialists who can guide their project, as well as managing a high workload, but will reward students with confidence and life skills to take into the workplace or university in the future. manufacturing allows for further development of design proposals and which may not enable the made outcome to be achieved in a realistic demonstrating an excellent understanding of material properties to ensure excellent quality prototype(s) that are fit for purpose.

Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. The Eduqas Design and Technology A Level encourages learners to use creativity and imagination when applying iterative design processes to develop and modify designs, and to design and make prototypes that solve real world problems, considering their own and others’ needs, wants, aspirations and values. Apply their technical knowledge and understanding of materials, product functionality, manufacturing processes and techniques To enable students to develop the industry standard skills they need for visual communication and virtual testing students are expected to work through an additional CAD course independently, which runs alongside the A-level. Students demonstrate their ability to critically analyse a current product in relation to a given context and propose realistic improvements or adaptations in response to the needs of stakeholders. They design and develop further iterations of it, enabling them to fully appreciate how the life-cycle of a product is reviewed, developed and extended for the relevant marketplace to their endorsed title. We provide a range of digital resources for both learners and educators, including A Level Design and Technology past papers, digital teaching resources and training events. You can access these, along with the A Level Design and Technology specification, using the menu above. the development of products; Art and Design (section ‘Design communication’) and History (section ‘Design Theory’). Why choose Brock for Product Design A Level?

There is distinct content for each of the endorsed titles. Much of this content takes an endorsed approach to underlying core principles of design and technology. The examined content is assessed in components 01 and 02. The content for component 03/04, the iterative design project, is more generic but specific application will be determined by the focus of the endorsed title selected: Undertake case studies to demonstrate their understanding of wider social, moral and environmental issues that impact on the design and manufacturing industries. Design Engineering (H004) focuses on engineered and electronic products/systems with their analysis in respect of:

Students must undertake a substantial design and make task and produce a final prototype based on a context and design brief developed by the student. Taking the task In year 12 opportunities will be given to practice crucial coursework skills including workload management, sketching and visual communication techniques, modelling, research skills, product analysis, creative designing and some practical skills. Knowledge will also be built on topics such as manufacturing processes theory, materials and their properties and relevant mathematical concepts. Students will apply these skills and knowledge through small projects, tasks and exam questions.Demonstrate their technical knowledge of materials, product functionality, manufacturing processes and techniques Published 22 September 2016 | PDF | 1.1 MB 3.1 Technical principles Materials and their applications Design for manufacturing, maintenance, repair and disposal Manufacture, repair, maintenance and disposal Content Both Design Engineering and Product Design courses lead to the same qualification so cannot be taken together. Product Design is compatible with most other A-level courses, depending on your chosen career path. Due to coursework workload we would not advise you to do three creative/heavy coursework subjects. The exact combination can lead to different career options and can be discussed with staff at enrolment events. Some career paths such as engineering or architecture may also require Maths or Physics A-level.
