The sort of behaviour you might see includes madcap chases and furious boxing matches. This is not ‘mad’ behaviour but instead the courting behaviour of mating hares. The boxing was commonly thought to be between two males battling over the favour of a female however they are more likely to be an unresponsive female fighting off a male’s advances.

Although the phrase in general has been in continuous use since the 16th century, [3] it was popularised in more recent times by Lewis Carroll in his 1865 children's book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, in which the March Hare is a character.

In 2013, as part of the Disney Dreamers Everywhere! event, the March Hare returned as a meet-and-greet character in the park. He returned in 2016, where he joined rabbit characters from other Disney animated projects in the resort's Easter festivities. In the otome game " Heart no Kuni no Alice", he appears as Elliot March, the right-hand man of Blood Dupre and one of the characters who fall in love with Alice. In Ralph Breaks the Internet, a screenshot depicting the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, and Alice can be seen around the Sorcerer Hat at the Disney Animation pavilion in Oh My Disney.The subterranean lifestyle of the rabbit isn’t shared by the hare either, who in fact lives its whole life above ground, in something of a nomadic fashion.
