About this deal

One version of a release from Gerry Coffin's 1973 album, "It Ain't Exactly Entertainment'. Goffin, Pt. 2 In any case, Goffin and King’s “Pleasant Valley Sunday” captured a bit of the critical vibe at the time for suburbia in the 1960s. The song stayed in the Top 40 for most of that summer and was also featured during the Monkees’ television series that year.

Still, in the midst of the cultural changes and industry upheaval, and the Goffin-King personal struggles, the pair would manage a few more hit songs. One of these is perhaps Gerry Goffin’s tour de force — “A Natural Woman,” or more correctly, “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman.” Now That Everything's Been Said – The City". Allmusic. At college he met Carol Joan Klein, who had started writing songs under the name Carole King. They began collaborating on songwriting, with King writing the music and Goffin the lyrics, and began a relationship. When King became pregnant, they left college and married in August 1959 when he was 20 and she was 17. Goffin began working with a chemicals manufacturer, and wrote the lyrics for King's 1959 single "Oh Neil", an answer song to her friend Neil Sedaka's " Oh! Carol". Goffin added the words to the tune written by Sedaka and Howard Greenfield, who both worked under Don Kirshner at the Aldon music publishing company in Manhattan; the single's B-side, "A Very Special Boy", was a Goffin-King composition. [7] Although the record was not a hit, the couple both secured contracts to write songs professionally at Aldon. [3] [8]

[37] King and Goffin were also the songwriting team behind Don Kirshner's Dimension Records, which produced songs including " Chains" (later recorded by the Beatles), " The Loco-Motion", " Keep Your Hands off My Baby" (both for their babysitter Little Eva), and " It Might as Well Rain Until September" which King recorded herself in 1962 — her first success, which charted at 22 in the US and 3 in the UK (where it was her all-time greatest hit). [38] King recorded a few follow-up singles in the wake of "September", but none of them sold much, and her already sporadic recording career was entirely abandoned (albeit temporarily) by 1966. Janelle Monae, James Taylor, Sara Bareilles, Aretha Franklin, and the cast of Beautiful, The Carole King Musical, performed during King’s segment of the awards ceremony. King was born Carol Joan Klein on February 9, 1942, in Manhattan, New York City, to Jewish parents Eugenia ( née Cammer), a teacher, and Sidney N. Klein, a firefighter. Her song " Now and Forever" was in the opening credits to the 1992 film A League of Their Own, and was nominated for a Grammy Award. [30] Colour of Your Dreams was released in 1993 and featured an appearance by Slash. Goffin and his wife Michele attended opening night of the musical " Beautiful" which depicted his marriage with Carole King. [4] Personal life [ edit ] As was often the case, Goffin’s words seemed to marry so exactly to King’s melodic line that it was difficult to imagine the two having been written separately.
