About this deal

The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 USM has the usual distortion seen in telephoto zooms: It's got some barrel distortion at 70mm and some pincushion distortion at 200mm. The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II has 25% less distortion, not that big a deal. Be sure your card has the same serial number as your lens, otherwise it's worthless. The serial number on the box should also match the lens and warranty card. If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 12" (30cm) wide on your screen, the complete image would print at a mammoth 55×82½″ (1.4×2.1 meters — bigger than life-sized) at this same extremely high magnification! We run a range of lab tests under controlled conditions, using the Imatest Master testing suite. Photos of test charts are taken across the range of apertures and zooms (where available), then analyzed for sharpness, distortion and chromatic aberrations. Desert Spanish Tile, 20 November 2016. Nikon D810, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 FL at close-focus distance at 200mm at f/2.8 at 1/2,000 at Auto ISO 100. bigger or full-resolution file to explore on your computer.

With rounded blades, there are no sunstars, except at the very smallest apertures where there may rarely be just a tiny one. Keep shooting hand held even when light gets low. A fast f/2.8 aperture lets in twice as much light as an f/4 lens, and a 3.5-stop Image Stabilizer guards against camera shake Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM internal optical construction. UD glass, Regular Optical Glass, Super UD glass, ( IS Section), UD Aspherical and Glass-Molded Aspherical elements. bigger. Here is are some full-frame shots at 200mm focused on a vertically-polarized phase lattice at 3 meters, with synthetic reference vegetation at 15 meters:

This new "E" diaphragm will not work on the D1 or D2 series, D100, D200, D90, D80, D70 series, D60, D50, D40 series, or D3000, and will not work on any 35mm camera. It's nice: the dual zippers are connected, and if you pull them down, Velcro at the top keeps it closed. Row of Desert Palms at Dawn, 21 November 2016. Nikon D810, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 FL at 200mm at f/2.8 at 1/2,000 at Auto ISO 100. bigger or full-resolution file to explore on your computer. Fulfilling the dream of mirrorless and quite different from Sony's big, fat and bloated 70-200/2.8 GM, this Canon RF 70-200/2.8 is much smaller and lighter than any other 70-200 f/2.8. It's about half the length of other 70-200/2.8s. It's the lightest 70-200/2.8 ever made and focuses super close. BRAVO!

I tested the E-mount version of the 70-200mm with the Sony a7R IV and a7R V. The a7R IV is a camera I own, whereas Lensrentals provided the a7R V so I could more easily conduct side-by-side tests with the Tamron 70-180mm G2. The Sigma balances well on both bodies, but I still found the extra support of a baseplate helpful. Bokeh, the feel, character or quality of out-of-focus areas as opposed to how far out of focus they are, is neutral. Blur circles are simply circles. In this shot, I'm looking directly at the sun. In actual use, no one would be this stupid and wound have the sun partially hidden behind the tree and not have this much flare. In this special case, I deliberately placed the sun to be unobscured by the tree, and then overexposed and had the tree in the picture precisely where I could see some ghosts. You won't see this unless you deliberately plan things this way to show them. The Nikon 70-200/2.8 FL is made better than most other Nikon autofocus lenses. It's got metal where we need it, and plastic where we can save weight.

Golf Course. Palm Trees and Mountains, 21 November 2016. Nikon D810, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 FL at 135mm at f/8 at 1/250 at Auto ISO 100. bigger or full-resolution file to explore on your computer. Nano Crystal Coat (N): an anti-reflection coating which varies its index of refraction continuously to achieve even greater reflection reduction. It's probably only on one surface, and is used mostly for marketing purposes. There's also the issue of sealing. While the RF 70-200mm possesses the same top-tier weather sealing as Canon's other L-series glass, the fact that it telescopes does make us wonder if water and particulates will start to find their way through the seals –especially if you're zooming in and out constantly while shooting in wet or dusty environments.
