About this deal

Each medal is individual - it’s important that the quality of the medal is right. Each one is handled with great care and attention. Unofficial medals, sometimes referred to as ‘commemorative’ medals, are usually designed and manufactured by private medal companies to commemorate some form of service with the Armed Forces, usually where no official MOD recognition has been previously given. The Iraq and Syria clasp is to be worn on the ribbon of this medal, denoting the risk and rigour of the task.

Army – Army personnel serving on His Majesty’s ships or in defensively equipped Merchant ships will qualify under the rules applying to the Navy or Merchant Navy. In addition, personnel taking part in land operations north of the Arctic Circle will also be eligible. If you are the next of kin of a deceased service person, it is common practice to wear your relative’s decorations and medals as a mark of remembrance. It is custom to wear medals on the right breast in civilian dress only, official approval is not required to wear relative’s medals. The Arctic Star is a retrospective award, announced in late 2012, nearly seven decades after the end of the Second World War. It was formally approved by the Queen for award to those who served on the Arctic Convoys during the Second World War, and production began in early 2013. [5]As a result, QPJM applications and appeals relating to Reserve Forces personnel are currently being frozen to avoid unnecessary work and will be reassessed against the revised criteria as soon as these are finalised. This work is likely to take a several months to complete and the outcome will be published via a DIN as soon as possible. It must be stressed that this review will not change the underlying requirement for 5 years (1826 days) qualifying service as at 6 Feb 2022, as this is a Pan-Government requirement. Coronation Medal 1953 The medal was awarded for any length of operational service north of the Arctic Circle by members of the British Armed Forces and the Merchant Navy. The qualifying area is defined as 66° 32’ North Latitude and the qualifying period recognises the particular severity of the conditions experienced by those who served in the Arctic. [1] [5] [19] [20] General – Service on the Greenland Sea outside of the coastal limit, Norwegian Sea and Barents Sea within the Arctic Circle are areas of service for eligibility to this star. The Project is road accessible, and located on excellent infrastructure in mining friendly Finland.” The medal was awarded unnamed, although some recipients chose to have their medals privately engraved. [22] RibbonAwarded for service between 11 June 1943 and 8 May 1945, in the Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea. Operations in and around the Dodecanese, Corsica, Greece, Sardinia and Yugoslavia after 11 June 1943 would also qualify. Generally the qualifying service period for the Italy Star could only begin after the 1939-1945 Star had been earned by six months’ service. There were no clasps awarded with the Italy Star. Nine types of medals were awarded to British merchant seamen who served in the Second World War and who met the qualifications for each medal. Eight of them are searchable here whilst the ninth, the Arctic Star, was not awarded until 2012 and records of its award do not exist at The National Archives. For more information on the Arctic Star and advice on how you can still apply for it, see our guide to Merchant seaman’s medals and honours. Medal Mr. Roy Spencer, who discovered the Wolf kimberlites also led the team that discovered the Grib Diamond Mine near Archangelsk, Russian Federation, has joined Arctic Star’s Board. “Kimberlites are likely to occur in fields – also known as clusters – which typically contain 30 or more separate kimberlites. The Wolf kimberlites are just the first discoveries in a more extensive cluster,” according to Roy Spencer. Roy continues: “There is good evidence for the existence of this field in the public domain. This data shows regional distribution of kimberlitic indicator minerals and diamonds in surficial tills. The Exploration Reservation will allow Arctic Star to explore the entire region”.
