This ensures the optimal handover from the midrange woofer to the tweeter, creating a well-balanced, unforced and very coherent upper midrange. Compared to most soft dome tweeters in the market, the Dali dome material is less than half the weight (0.060 mg/mm2). The tweeter front plate near the dome has been designed with similar geometry as the Opticon and Rubicon tweeters to create the optimal working conditions for the soft dome. The aim is to combine an extended frequency response with wide dispersion and low colouration. Patented SMCThe cabinet housing of the OBERON 3 is constructed from high-density CNC machined MDF board - dressed in carefully selected high-grade vinyl. The OBERON 3 cabinet employs a very rigid construction, with solid bracings across the inside of the cabinet for reinforcement. This contributes to the stiffness and practically eliminates resonance within the cabinet. Dali has tried to keep this speaker as versatile as possible, even including a rear panel fixing to make wall mounting easier. While these speakers sound notably more balanced than most rivals when used right up against a wall, if possible, we suggest pulling them around 30cm into the room to make the most of their excellent stereo imaging and midrange clarity. All in all the Oberon 3 is a true showcase of Dali ideas, traditions and inventions - all wrapped in an elegant and modern design. Oberon 3 is easy to integrate into any room. Both the driver materials and geometry applied in the Oberon 3 have been selected to achieve a wide dispersion pattern in the listening area. The main focus of this blog post is the Oberon 3, the largest bookshelf speaker in the Oberon series. It is a suitable choice for those who require good bass performance but have limited space in their home. The Tweeter The cabinet construction of the Oberon 3 is composed of high-density CNC machined MDF board - dressed in carefully selected high-grade vinyl. The very rigid construction of the Oberon 3 cabinet is due to solid bracings across the inside of the cabinet for reinforcement. This improves the stiffness and practically eliminates resonance within the cabinet. The rounded edges and rustic fabric of these new DALI front grilles add a lighter and more contemporary visual look to the OBERON series. This look is enhanced by the elegantly shaped aluminium base mounted on the two floor-standing models. Our Installation Service only includes connecting to existing points and fixings. This does not include installing or moving plumbing, connection points or electrics. Installing new points or moving existing points is the customer’s responsibility we can recommend local tradesmen however this will be at the customer’s expense and we not accept any liability for their work. The Oberon 3s have a sound that I would describe as articulate, especially with human voices, with a mid-range that is a bit more tilted forward in sound compared to my Revel F26 towers. When toed in, the treble seemed a bit aggressive and taking the grilles off heightened the effect. I would recommend leaving the grilles on and doing as suggested by the manufacturer, set them up pointing straight out into the room. Though they sound bigger than their size suggests, they really don’t dig deep in the bass department. The oak finish of the bodies (assembled from MDF panels of increased density with an internal damper) is perfect - the decor realistically imitates not only the color and texture of real wood, but also does not seem artificial to the touch, because it conveys the characteristic roughness of natural material. Dustproof nets on magnetic mounts also look very fashionable. This is just one of the four finishes invented for the entire Oberon series. Others are more classical.
