A lot of people will add topsoil to improve their soil quality – but over time this will not dramatically change the makeup of the soil. Adding organic material to your soil can also help reduce the amount of water your lawn requires, as it helps the soil retain moisture for longer periods. Organic material is also a source of humic acid, which is essential for the growth and development of plant roots.
