About this deal

A veritable off-brand Tyvek slumber party in the Utah desert, circa 2013. Is Tyvek really waterproof? DuPont™ Tyvek ® guarantees a profound and lasting impression. Tyvek ® can be easily printed with screen, offset, UV inkjet, thermal transfer, digital (some), inkjet (coated styles), Flexo, HP Indigo and Letterpress printing processes.

A: Yes. Water-based adhesive, solvent adhesive, animal glue, hot melt adhesive and so on can be used for Tyvek® gluing. When selecting an adhesive, consider the composition of the materials to be glued, the processing conditions, and the end-use conditions. Some adhesives contain ingredients (such as plasticizers, solvents, or monomers) that can distort Tyvek®. Work with your adhesive supplier to select and thoroughly test the adhesive for your application, before beginning mass production. Tyvek® is formed first by spinning continuous strands of very fine interconnected fibres, and then bonding them together with heat and pressure. The result is a bright white, spunbonded sheet which combines a good printing surface with high opacity, chemical resistance, and toughness. DuPont™ Tyvek® is made to perform in harsh, rugged and extreme conditions. Water, chemicals, heat, cold, rough handling, long-term outdoor use? No problem! Tyvek® is tear, puncture, water, UV and chemical resistant.

A: Tyvek® is dimensionally stable from -73°C to 100°C. Under tension, such as in printing or coating operations, we recommend that temperature not be higher than 79°C to avoid deformation of Tyvek®.

Rogers, Stuart E. (May 22, 2012). "Aerodynamics and Debris Transport for the Space Shuttle Launch Vehicle" (PDF). NASA Ames Research Center . Retrieved October 16, 2023.The corona and antistat treatment on Tyvek® enhances the effectiveness of any ink, adhesive or other coating process and makes Tyvek® easy to use on flexographic, letterpress, offset, and some digital presses. Specifically, corona treatment on both sides of DuPont™ Tyvek® styles with a "D" suffix and style 1079 increases surface wettability, as measured by its improved surface tension (40-42 dynes/cm2). Tyvek® is the name given to a family of tough, durable sheet products manufactured by Dupont from pure 100% high density polyethylene (HDPE). Some of my first experiences with Tyvek came while camping in deep snow, where keeping insulation completely dry was vital. Despite the cold, sitting or sleeping would often melt the top layer of snow ever so slightly. With a sheet of Tyvek underneath, among other things, the dreaded seep was kept firmly at bay. Furthermore, the material did not saturate and later freeze solid like a number of similar items I’ve used. The Humble Tyvek Ass Pad A: Tyvek® is a non-woven material, and its abrasion performance cannot be compared with woven fabric. Increased abrasion performance can be achieved by lamination with another material. It is suggested that Customers should always evaluate the performance of Tyvek® for their specific application. Q29: Can Tyvek® be laminated? Will the process affect water resistant performance and breathability?

Made of high-density polyethylene fibres (HDPE),Tyvek ® is 100% recyclablejust like plastic bottles. Tear-resistant Tyvek ® is not affected by most acids, bases and salts. It has excellent rot and mildew resistance and resists soiling and staining. Tyvek's properties—such as being difficult to tear but easily cut, and waterproof against liquids while allowing water vapor to penetrate—have led to it being used in a variety of applications. Tyvek is often used as housewrap, a synthetic material used to protect buildings during construction, or as personal protective equipment (PPE). [1] History [ edit ] A: Tyvek® is breathable, which means water vapor and gases can go through Tyvek®. The moisture vapor permeability of Tyvek® is much higher than that of plastic films. Compared to most textile fabrics, the air permeability of Tyvek® is low. Customers should evaluate Tyvek® in their specific application.DuPont™ Tyvek® gives a more distinctive look to anything you print than common paper ever could. It feels more natural and has far better flat, precision folding qualities than synthetic films. And although it isn't a textile, it can easily function as one. Like any good question, this has been the subject of vigorous debate on the Internet. Strictly speaking, even hard structure Tyvek is classified only as water-resistant when water exposure is constant, according to the official Tyvek user’s manual. Water-resistance comes as a benefit of Tyvek’s composition and polyethylene’s natural properties, rather than the result of any sort of coating or treatment. The wonder of Tyvek® material is that it is highly resistant to rips, tears, and snags, but Tyvek is still able to be cut and designed into the shapes and parts needed to design superior slim wallets, coin pouches, and other accessories. Many who first encounter Tyvek® are surprised and impressed by its strength considering its thin and light qualities.

Tyvek ® is almost indestructible and can endure temperatures ranging from -73°C to +110°C ! Printable History of Weather Barrier". www2.dupont.com. Archived from the original on 2012-10-05 . Retrieved 2018-11-28. That said, on my own soggy, northbound AT hike, the off-brand variety I used as a groundcloth started to soak through during the first few hundred miles. I switched it out for a seemingly more robust Tyvek-brand sheet in Erwin, Tennessee, and fared just fine for the rest of my hike. Is Tyvek really breathable? A: Tyvek® is not considered UV resistant and we do not recommend Tyvek® for applications where constant sun exposure is expected. For intermittent or short-term sun exposure, some styles can be used, please consult DuPont sales for recommendation. It is suggested that customers test the UV performance of Tyvek® for their specific application. Tyvek® 1073D is suitable for offset, litho, screen printing, as well as flexographic, rotogravure and certified for use with liquid toner presses (HP Indigo) but not with laser printers.A: Yes, like woven materials, Tyvek® can be laminated with a variety of materials, the breathability and water resistant properties may be changed depending on the materials selected for lamination. There are limitless opportunities for using paper / event wristbands. If you need to organise crowds of people, why not try our Tyvek wristbands for identification purposes. Below is a list of other common uses: A: Tyvek® should not be considered as flame retardant and its flammability is like most synthetic fibers. Tyvek® type 10 has been tested according to ASTM E84-89a with a class A rating. Type 14 Tyvek® has been tested according to 16 CFR 1610 with a class 1 rating. The melting point of Tyvek® is 135°C and the ignition point of high density polyethylene is approximately 400°C. Specific flame-retardant requirements can be met by applying a special coating to Tyvek®. Tyvek® is incredibly light and flexible. It boasts a remarkable strength-to-weight ratio, so coupled with the high strength and recycleability it is therefore an ideal printing substrate for banners and signs.
