About this deal

There is no patent on the XT30 connector, we hope this product is sold everywhere in the world and dominates the market, reducing customer dependency on the over-priced and underperforming alternatives for this amp class. To determine what AWG wires you need, you should first work out your quad’s maximum amp draw and then refer to a current rating look-up table. The current rating is normally a continuous current if not specified. If you don’t have any spare, these connectors are cheaply and widely available. Select balance lead based on the LiPo cell count, and use XT30 or XT60 depending on what’s on the parallel charging board. My power distribution board had 3.5mm connectors but changed them to 5.5mm Castle Creation connectors. Because of that I replaced also the bullet connectors from the ESCs end side to 4mm. I also upgraded the wire to 10AWG but even after doing all that I’m still having the same issue. Now the only connectors I haven’t replaced yet are the motor bullet plugs from the motors, as well as the connectors on the speed controllers to the motor side which are 3.5mm. I measured the connector resistance at 0.90 mOhms and 1.22 mOhms for the 2 pins. The XT60 had 0.70mOhms both. The jst connector I measured had 22mOhms and 18. There are several types of wires available, the most common type used in FPV drones is silicone stranded wire. Compared to solid core wires, stranded wires are more flexible and easier to work with.

When extending a capacitor in your FPV drone, the recommended wire gauge will depend on the size of the capacitor and the amount of current it will be handling. But in general, the length of the wires are more important than the wire gauge. Here I made three adapters for 2S, 3S (XT30) and 4S (XT60). You can remove the wires in the middle, all you need are the two wires on the outside (first and last wires). Solder these two wires to the XT30/XT60 connector, Positive to Positive, Negative to Negative. For signals, it’s less of a problem and you can use any connector you want. However, when it comes to battery or any high current applications, it’s crucial to choose the right type of connector, because like wires, connectors also have a current limitation. One important factor to consider when choosing wires for your FPV drone is the wire’s resistance. Longer or thinner wires will have more resistance, which can lead to voltage drop and power loss (especially so for the battery). This is why wires have a current rating. Physical properties: In terms of softness, the silicone wire is relatively soft. And PVC is relatively hard. At low temperatures, PVC wire is softer than silicone wire.

To maintain consistency throughout the testing, I chose to use the same battery for all the connectors (a 2S 300mAh LiHV battery). The original connector on this battery was replaced with the connectors under test.

I have a ton of these connectors from retiring old LiPo batteries, as I always cut the leads off before throwing them away.

XT30, Designed by hexTronik to be more reliable and a better quality connection than Mini Deans T-Connectors and Mini JST for the given size and weight. The heat dissipation performance of the multi-strand wire is better than that of the single-strand wire because the multi-strand wire has a certain gap. However, most people choose adapters instead of soldering for convenience, which is a safety hazard. What are single-strand and multi-strand? There’s also voltage rating for electrical wires, but it’s usually not a concern for RC applications, since the voltage we are dealing with are well below 30V. The wires we use can tolerate much higher voltage (e.g. hundreds of volts or even higher). Where to Buy Silicon Electrical Wires I had no problems soldering and insulating the connectors, and at the field they are easy to pull apart, especially after using JST for so long.

As a general guideline, I personally follow this table based on the burst current requirement (e.g. current draw at full throttle): Looking at the results, it’s clear that the PH2.0 (solid pin) connector falls short when compared to the others we tested. It demonstrated a higher voltage sag, primarily due to its higher resistance, which subsequently led to a marginal reduction in flight time as well.

Connectors are an essential component for attaching two components temporally, such as the battery and ESC. You can also use connectors if you don’t like soldering.
