About this deal

I like books that deal with possible mistaken identities. It keeps you guessing even when you think you know what’s going on. Secrets, suspense, and a missing sister-who may not want to be found-are at the center of Briana Cole's latest enthralling multicultural drama. Will appeal to fans of psychological suspense, gritty drama, and listeners of De'Nesha Diamond, Kiki Swinson, Saundra, Wahida Clark, Ashley & JaQuavis, Victoria Christopher Murray, and Shelly Ellis.

Featuring ~ dual 1st & 3rd person POV, dual timeline, suicide references, miscarriage, secrets, lies, drama, step-siblings Eve Hewson plays creepy and mysterious Adele in Behind Her Eyes. In real life the 29-year-old actress is Irish, she was born in Dublin and now lives in the US. Her full name is actually Memphis Eve Sunny Day Hewson and she has a pretty strong Irish accent in real life too. Ima bout ready to pull my hair out. This book has stressed me out more than TMZ and Kevin did Britney in the early 00’s. Rob’s obsession with wealth blinkers him to reality. He myopically sees Adele and David’s life only as a flawless fairy tale, callously dismissing Adele’s loneliness and the traumatic deaths of her parents. When Adele first teaches him the ability to quell his nightmares and control his dreams – a gift for which he is supremely ungrateful – Rob conjures up a manor house, a cravat and a butler. Upon his arrival at Adele’s estate, he immediately goes into an exaggerated role play as the lord of the manor.Wealth, status and being loved are his obsessions. I thought Cole did a good job writing the diary entries as if they were from a 11-12 year old. Sometimes authors do a bad job and it sounds too grown-up or too childish, but I thought she wrote it just right!By the time I got done with this book, I was side eyeing everyone I knew all day long. I’m so glad I don’t have a damn sister. Shat! I have only read one prior book by Briana Cole and I loved it, so I was excited when she reached out and asked if I would like to read and review a copy of her debut psychological thriller. Deven and Kennedy are sisters, and the book starts off with Deven having to go and identify Kennedy’s body, except she knows said body is not Kennedy’s. Confused as to what is happening, this sets her off on her own investigation and she soon realizes Kennedy may not actually be missing, she may not want to be found. And that Deven may not have known who her sister truly was. This is where things get interesting. She starts to learn about a whole other life that her sister lead, and none of it is good. It was an addictive read and I felt for Devan. Life was not being kind to her and things just kept getting worse. She is certain the body is not Kennedy. So who the hell is this woman and why has she been identified as her sister? Where is the real Kennedy?

I have had a miscarriage (7+ years ago) and since then I’ve had four kids, including twins. I was okay reading this book now. I think she handled writing that part pretty well. But I don’t think I would have wanted to read this book if that pain and grief was still fresh. Especially with the short dream sequence that is described after her miscarriage. I don’t think that would have sat well with me. Later, in London, Rob-as-Adele’s fixation on beauty and appearances see him dressing almost entirely in white (the colour of the rehab uniform in which he first met, and idolised, Adele) and spending his life maintaining her athletic body and magazine-spread house. This story of Deven and Kennedy was gripping from the very beginning. I swear, every time I thought I had things figured out another little mystery would unfold and I'd be scratching my head again. Of course, David and Louise live in completely different parts of the area with Louise pointing out early on how he lives in the "nice bit".There is so much more that could possibly be told in this story, but unless there is a sequel, we will just have to make up our own future for Devan and the rest. Deven receives some Earth-shatteringly bad news. Her sister Kennedy has died of an apparent drug overdose. Deven thinks she knows her little sister well enough to say that she believes she would never do drugs. If this was a suicide, why the hell would Kennedy have done this? I felt so close to this not the missing sister concept but the losing a loved one. It was so hard to listen the end of the book for me I cried so much. You never realize how important a person to you until you lose it…
