About this deal

This one is a controversial, love-it-or-hate-it strategy. I’ve seen many players, myself included some time ago, using this strategy over and over, to prevent one’s opponents from moving through your corner, disincentivizing them from reaching your space and leaving you room to deploy your pieces.

The second phase starts when player tiles approach each other. This usually commences after turn four and it is now that Blokus gets interesting. Careful selection of tiles mean a player can wrap their pieces around others and wriggle their way into new territory. It is important to optimise space on the grid and leave very few gaps between tiles. By using shapes wisely players can cut off and limit other’s tile-laying opportunities.

The game requires a strategy to plan upfront, read your opponents’ moves and tactics, know when to play each piece, avoid mistakes, and leave no room for your opponents to score points on your behalf. There are: 1 piece of only one square, 1 piece of two squares, 2 pieces of three squares, 5 pieces of four squares, and 12 pieces of five squares. The final phase might be considered the “mopping up”. This tends to start at turn 14. The expansion of the tiles has created spaces where only one or two players can legally place their shapes. If there is competition it is often wise to grab these opportunities. This part of Blokus is all about putting remaining tiles into the spaces available. Players need to consider how to use their last few shapes to crawl through gaps. Playing the final piece as a single square will give a great sense of satisfaction and a degree of smugness. This may not be possible all the time – you may want to get a finger into an area that needs you to play your I4 piece or similar. However, always keep this as your top priority. 6. Break into enemy territory

Yes, you can. Follow the strategies in this guide and you will increase your chances of a perfect game. How long does it take to play Blokus? There have been video games based on Blokus. Irem was the first to develop such a kind of video game, in the form of what is known as Blokus Club with Bumpy Trot. Released in Japan in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, and one year later for the PlayStation Portable, the game features characters from Steambot Chronicles ( Bumpy Trot in Japan) playing the Classic, Travel, and Duo versions of the game. The game received an international release in 2008, under the name Blokus Portable: Steambot Championship. Play tiles so they touch a corner of one of your pieces. Once it’s your turn again, choose any tile you have in front of you and place it on the game board. Set the piece onto the board so one of its corners touches a corner on the first tile you placed. Make sure the tile doesn’t touch sides with any piece that’s the same color, or else it’s an illegal move. [1] X Research source This means you may leave some empty areas as long as you know your opponents don’t have the pieces needed to take advantage of these leaks.Blokus rules also allow for two and three player games. [5] In two-player games, each player takes two colors. In three-player games, either one of the players takes two colors or else "the pieces of the fourth color are placed on the board in a non-strategic way." [5] Variations and spinoffs [ edit ] Blokus Duo (in its original iteration; with purple and orange pieces) For some time, there was an official online version of Blokus where visitors could play with opponents all over the world. Mattel discontinued the online game on May 18, 2012, stating it did not meet its playability standards. [7] It's always an excellent service with brilliant products at a very competitive price - will use again! Travel Blokus was released as the smaller version of Blokus Duo, then re-released as Blokus To Go! with pieces that could be snapped into the board or storage. Travel Blokus was later re-released as the smaller version of the original Blokus game, rather than Blokus Duo. There are many different options of play during this phase. There is little need for over-analysis. Options for play often fall into two groups; there may be one clear move for a specific piece, or the player may be faced with a large variety of tile choices.

For example, if you have 2 tiles that have 4 squares and 1 tile that has 5 squares at the end of the game, you have -13 points. Focus on multiplying your available angles whenever you play a piece on the board. This will ensure you more tactics and open new strategies for your future moves. 9. Identify passages in your opponent’s lines A game of Blokus usually takes between 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the number and experience of the players. Start using these strategies to improve your game and win at Blokus every time The green player could not place 1 three-square piece, 3 four-square pieces, and 1 five-square piece. Score: -20 points Each player then counts the number of unit squares in his/her remaining pieces (1 unit square = -1 point).

The game of Blokus, from Mattel, centres around a large grid. Players sit each at a corner, with an array of coloured, shaped tiles. These pieces may be visible to the other players or not, depending on local house rules. Play starts by selecting one shape to fit into their starting corner. Blokus is a colourful, abstract game for two to four players. It is a family game, one that's very suitable for children of school age, seven years or older. Players place geometrically shaped tiles on a board, filling in the gaps and aiming to be the first to play all of their tiles. Gameplay The worst leaks are the flexible ones. These are the ones that let your opponents multiple choices open to play on those spaces Blokus Giant is a larger version, with the game board being about 570mm (22in) square. It was later released by Mattel as Blokus XL.
