Deliverance is not a direct command but a request to God to help a person. Because it’s a petition, or praying for a person, anyone can do that. Well, that’s a long story, but here is the short version. Exorcism has been common in the Church from the beginning, as part of being baptized into the Church in the early days, and also for possessed people in general. It’s important to establish a baseline for the general laity to understand the difference between ordinary and extraordinary activity of the devil, and then to further define examples of extraordinary activity. All of us are tempted to sin, which is the easiest way to explain the ordinary activity of Satan. He tends to influence our thoughts with subtle messages we may dismiss as harmless, and then these can be entertained through our emotions and, if we do not rebuke them swiftly, can lead to sin. In Matthew 17:20, Christ said it was because of their “little faith.” However, in Mark 9:29, Christ said, “This kind can come out only by prayer.” Essentially, the reason the disciples could not cast out the demon was because they were not spiritually prepared. Their faith and prayer lives were weak. For this reason, in ministering to those oppressed, it may be wise to take time to fast, pray, and saturate oneself in the Word before ministering to a person being oppressed, lest we find ourselves unfit and unprepared like the disciples.However, when demons are literally living on the inside of someone’s body, this is what you call “demonization.” But again, the rules are the same. Find out what their legal rights are, properly break them before the Lord, and then proceed to cast them out in the name of Jesus.
When a person is under strong demonic oppression, such as when the demon has rendered the person helpless and taken over his voice-box, we should quote Scriptures that represent Satan’s defeat, as we command the demon to leave, and pray over the person. Consider the following: Demons are considered a form of evil spirits that can influence human beings in many ways. Although there are many non-believers about demons and their influences, many religions insist that these spirits can influence or cause disruptions to human lives and their faith. The sacramental life: baptism, confession, and the Mass. Avoid violating the First Commandment and entering into a relationship with a spirit other than God. Pray in a healthy, balanced way each morning and night.The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. The Apostle Peter wrote something similar by writing that “ God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment” (2nd Pet 2:4) so both Jude and Peter tell us that some demons aren’t even allowed to be free. Perhaps they are so evil and dangerous that God had to restrain them in chains of darkness. By the way, this is also the fate of “ the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death” (Rev 21:8) although not exactly the same level of punishment as Satan will have. One thing we do know; demons have been known to oppress people and some even possess people, but can a Christian be oppressed by a demon?
