About this deal

Gently Touch the Grinder To The Nails: Hold your dog’s paw gently but securely. Lightly touch the grinder to one of their nails for a brief moment to let them feel the vibration. Reward them with a treat and praise.

Good ForUnsteady Hands. If you feel your hands are not steady enough to clip your dog’s nails, you may find a nail grinder easier to use. You’ll still need to hold your dog still, but you likely won’t need the same level of precision to aim the grinder as you would require with clippers. A dog nail grinder works differently. A typical grinder is a rotary tool with an extended tip that spins. A rough surface attached to the spinning end sands the nail down gradually, smoothing as it goes. Traditional nail clippers work by pinching and then cutting through the nerveless keratin part of a dog’s nail. This can be uncomfortable for the dog, and it can also leave rough, scratchy edges that catch on fabric and cause damage to floors and furniture.

Cordless: Some grinders plug directly into the wall, but the cables make it hard to maneuver around your pet. We used the FURminator on our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. It’s plenty powerful for just using AA batteries but wish it was re-charable. The light helps you see the nail better as not to trim too short. The guard has an extra safety precaution. It came with a spare band too. It’s not as good of a job as what they do at the vet, but it at least helps hold you over between trips to the groomer.” – Sadie Cornelius, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel parent PawPerfect By Bell+Howell Pet Nail Rotating File Review

The tool is cordless, so you don’t need to worry about your dog getting caught up in the chord while you are working, and it has a removable and rechargeable battery that will save you money in the long run. For more detailed instructions, you can consult the full user manual, which is available online and contains helpful diagrams. Another common mistake is holding the Dremel tool against the nail for long. Here, heat builds up, burning your pup’s nail and foot. If you avoid these two common mistakes, your pooch probably won’t even realize that they’re getting a pedicure. How Often Should You Dremel Your Dog’s Nails? This Dremel grinder is a high-quality product from a respected brand, so you shouldn’t expect it to be cheap. This means protecting the rest of their foot, going slow, and not doing too much at any one time. Do Long Nails Hurt Dogs? A Dremel for pets is a rotary tool used for grinding your dog’s nails instead of clipping or cutting them. The battery-operated tool has a rotating grinding wheel called the Dremel bit. This nifty tool allows you full control over trimming your dog’s nails, right in the comfort of your own home.

Remember that patience and positive reinforcement are key when grinding your dog’s nails. If you’re unsure about how short to trim the nails or if you’re uncomfortable doing it yourself, consider seeking help from a professional groomer or your veterinarian. Overly long nails can be painful and can lead to various health issues for your dog, so regular nail maintenance is essential. Dog nail grinders are grooming tools that serve as an alternative nail-cutting solution for dogs that aren’t big fans of clippers. But the thing that really stands out about this grinder is its safety features. It has a nail guard to ensure your dog’s fur doesn’t get caught up in the grinder and an LED light so you can always clearly see what you are doing. Even for pups with light-colored nails, grinding can be more comfortable. While clippers can pinch and tug, grinders don’t exert any pressure or twist. The other big challenge is the noise of the grinder. Some dogs don’t like this loud whirring noise on principal, much like they don’t like the sound of the vacuum cleaner. And if they have had a bad experience with a grinder, you can expect that fear to be quadrupled. The machine has a lot of options including multiple speeds up to 13,000 RPM, a standard sanding drum with three different sanding wheels, and a small drum with another three choices of sanding surfaces. Start by just removing a small amount of the nails so they can get used to the experience and realize it isn’t that bad. And, of course, always reward them for their cooperation after. This tool features a rechargeable battery for cordless operation and is compatible with most other Dremel rotary tool bits and accessories. My favorite feature is the 45° paw guide that assures you to file the nails at the correct angle to prevent injury.

There are a number of advantages and disadvantages of using a nail grinderas opposed to a nail cutter. We’ll cover some of the big ones here! It is best not to use human nail designed products on dogs because they are the wrong shape to work with dogs’ nails. Sally holds a BA in English from James Madison University and began her writing career as a graduate student at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Journalism & Mass Communications. She’s been researching and writing about dogs for Canine Journal since 2015, specializing in dog health articles. But she also has written extensively about dog accessories, pet insurance, training, and many other dog subjects. Her work has appeared in several notable media outlets, including The Washington Post, Entrepreneur, People, Forbes, Huffington Post, and more.

I like the list but the subjectiveness of “quiet” could have been better handled with a DB meter. MSRP pricing would be handy and easy to provide although I know this can become dated. When you are ready to start grooming, go slow. Don’t expect them to stay for a long nail grinding session. Features two speeds (6,500 and 15,000 rpm) allowing you to safely and carefully grind the nails of your dog or pet in stages
