About this deal

Krytox™ aerospace oils, which have more strict volatility specifications and are a narrower distillation than GPL oils. While you can in theory use the bag lube method for the stem as well as the spring, it ends up being a poor solution for the stem as it is less evenly distributed on the stem, is wasteful on parts that don’t need lube and creates a mess of the part you actually mount the keycap on. If your grease is whitish in colour a good rule of thumb is that you’ve used too much if you can tell that it is white when you apply it to the switch. In thinner applications it should be fairly clear. Different Krytox™ oils have specific properties that make them well-suited for the demands of particular industries or environments. The family of Krytox™ oils includes: Although the lubricant is chemically stable and non-hazardous please wear gloves and place a protective layer of drop-plastic below any working surface. Spills are difficult to clean, and the lubricant will transfer from an operator's hands to any surface they may touch.

Certain switches have more stem wobble and looser housings than others--you might want to add switch films to help with these issues during your lubing process. The 10x range are oils and then 20x range are all greases. The most common greases and oils used in our community seem to be 104, 106, 203, 204, and 205. You will often see, especially 205, with a g0 on the end. This stands for Grade 0 which changes the consistency of the grease. Grade 0 being quite a smooth consistency and the higher grades becoming more like a peanut butter consistency. Don’t assume, but most vendors sell 205g0. If they don’t specify, then ask, but you probably want Grade 0. Okay, so which one should I use? And after using side by side I think Tribosys is marginally better than Krytox. 3204 would be the 204 equivalent if you get Tribosys Products from the Krytox family are often graded for their viscosity by number with the lower the number the less viscous it is. So for example 203 is less viscous than 204 which is in turn less viscous than 205 and so on.Refer to the Krytox™ Performance Lubricants Product Overview or the Krytox™ Lubricants Product Selection Guide to learn more. If you’re using grease on something like a Tealio or Gateron linear, apply very, very lightly, almost like you’re dry brushing it on. If you have any other suggestions for how to lube switches I’d love to hear them. The brushing process is pretty time consuming so if there’s another way to do it without sacrificing accuracy I’m all ears! Alright, I’m sold, but where do I buy these lubricants?

For an industry standard lubricant, look no further than Krytox GPL 205g0 PTFE grease as the lubricant of choice for linear switches and stabilisers, providing a buttery smooth feeling and dampened sound to your mechanical keyboard switches and stabilisers. Good questions there. In my experience so far I haven’t had to do any maintenance or reapplication of lubricant. I’ve had one board lubed for about a year and it still feels very good. I don’t know if the feel has changed because it would be a subtle shift over a long period of time but I can still say that they feel lubricated and aren’t in need of further adjustment. Krytox GPL 205g0 is the “industry standard” lubricant for linear switches and stabilisers. Krytox GPL 205g0 (205 grade 0) is the ultimate switch lube for your linear switches and stabilisers, as custom mechanical keyboard enthusiasts recommended. Badge : The front Stainless Steel badge with print a mountain-like “M” with the Class60's name (may vary slightly in production) The thing to remember is that evenness is the name of the game when lubricating your switches with 205 grade 0. It's always easier to add lube than to remove lube, so don't hesitate to experiment with different amounts of 205g0 on a few of your switches to find out what you like best. Once you've found out, rinse and repeat, consistently. Tips on Using Krytox 205 Grade 0 effectively

Practice makes perfect, so don't be too harsh on yourself if you don't manage to have evenly lubed switches (or keyboard stabilizers) on your first attempt. And so you know, over time and use, Krytox 205 grade 0, and lubricants in general, will distribute itself where it needs to go inside the switch. The reason, I think, that we’ve adopted some specialized lubricants is due to how precise and small scale these switches are. A small change can make a big impact on the switch properties so we need lubricants that are precise and well measured. The Krytox brand, having a wide range of easily discernable viscosities has become quite popular and therefore used by quite a few in our community. It has so far stood the test of time compared to other brands and so is often recommended. Not consistent, sluggish and will probably gum up after a while. You get more variety with Krytox as well

Absolutely love this idea of putting together a cohesive singular body of knowledge on a topic in this community. If you are going to build more than one keyboard or you have a hot-swap PCB and want to swap your switches regularly, get a lubing station. It will help you be more efficient and organized. Dirt is one of a bearing’s worst enemies. Debris, anti-rust preservatives, and other residues limit lubricity, which can result in failures. Proper bearing preparation and use of high-quality lubricants, such as Krytox™ performance lubricants, can reduce facility downtime and maintenance costs. Krytox™ fluorinated oils are a series of low molecular weight, fluorine end-capped, homopolymers of hexafluoropropylene epoxide. The polymer chain is completely saturated and contains only carbon, oxygen, and fluorine; hydrogen is not present. Krytox™ Performance Lubricants Applications DuPont only manufactures Krytox in China, and has not manufactured any Krytox products in the United States in decades. I cannot say if it is the same [as Miller-Stephenson] or not, but I can say if it is crossing markets it is definitely gray market, which is generally not allowed, or very very old.In time, Krytox GPL 205 grade 0 tends to separate slightly--you'll see a little coat of oil on top of the 205G0 grease. This is why you always want to shake well or mix your Krytox 205 grade 0 on a palette to give it its best integrity.
