Now, there are a lot of references to abusive partners in this so if that’s something you think you may struggle with then go in prepared, although as with all of Jane’s books you know there is going to be a happy ending so you can read it with a slightly relaxed approach knowing all will be well in the end so don’t let it put you off reading this! It’s actually focused on the escape from abuse and being able to not let the past control you, showing that you can still have a happy and fulfilled life!

Outside : cottage garden with path to drive. Good size rear garden with lawn and patio, and dining furniture. Shed for bike storage. I was totally brought into the world which Jane Lovering has created in this romcom. Tamzin and Euan are both such interesting characters who have been damaged by past relationships. Although on the surface, this is a gentle and heart-warming romance, there is quite a dark side to some of the issues which are hidden. Tamzin and Euan recognise in each other their vulnerabilities. Nature and the environment seem to have a healing quality which offers them some hope and a chance to connect with what is important.I enjoyed the descriptions of the Yorkshire countryside, very peaceful and relaxing. I also enjoyed seeing Tazmin and her mysterious neighbour Euan help each other heal from past hurts and come alive again. The story is set in North Yorkshire and filled with descriptions of picturesque scenery and vibrant wildlife. It's the characters that make this story so engaging. Tamzin running from her former life, is wary of others and is determined to live her life as she wants to. Euan lives in the neighbouring cottage. His unfriendliness masks a host of secrets that the story reveals. Jill is the person who helps Tamzin construct a run for her orphaned fox, but she is more critical as emotional support for both Euan and Tamzin and is a lovely character. Tamzin is recovering from a long period of time as a victim of emotional abuse and gaslighting at the hands of her partner. After finally summoning the strength to leave him and start a new life, she moves to a remote cottage in Yorkshire with her pet fox, who she is rehabilitating. Upon moving in she meets her mysterious neighbour Euan and doesn’t quite know what to make of him.

Sitting room: two sofas, coffee table, Smart TV showing Freeview, speaker with AUX point, wood-burning stove, telephone for emergency calls. The book opens with our introduction to Stella. It’s 1973 and she’s making plans to escape from her violent, controlling husband. This first chapter is heartbreaking as he has messed with her mind so thoroughly that she’s convinced she is useless and to blame for everything. Stella’s story is the most prominent one, since a huge chunk of the novel revolves around Tamzin’s attempts to discover more about the woman in the pictures she finds stashed around the house. Stella’s life is presented as a mystery for Tamzin and the readers to solve, but the plot never really commits to this format. The characters do some research now and then, but mostly wait around for handywoman Jill’s mother to return from Greece to tell them more about Stella. The older woman must be trope-savvy, since she waits until the end of the book to return to Yorkshire. And, when she does, she straight up tells everyone what became of Stella.Tender shrubby salvias, such as S. fulgens, are also an important element, together with clusters of flat heads of Achillea and the red-hot pokers—which Vita liked and Harold hated. One day she discovers a photograph of a woman dated in the early seventies and wonders what became of her. Stella used to live in Tamzin’s cottage and longed for a perfect life there with her husband but the truth is a little different. This fictional novel has a dual timeline that reveals two different women that are within two different times and generations living and attempting to seek solace and refuge within a Yorkshire cottage. The storylines between Tazmin and Stella, while living in the same lovely location, are different in their circumstances, outlook, and ending. I won’t delve deeper, as any more of a description would spoil the unveilings within. Playroom/teenage den : 2 beanbags, sofa, armchair, bookcase, large Smart TV with DVD and access to Netflix if you have your own Netflix account. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Ellie Roberts has inherited an cottage on Morwen Island from Patience Ellis who she just remembers vaguely from her childhood but she has to live in the cottage for a year. The cottage is in a state but Ellie can see potential at the end of the year will she sell it. We see Patience and her life as a child and what she went through all the years liked this part of the story.

A Cottage Full of Secrets is a dual timeline contemporary romance that follows the story of two women who have made a tiny Yorkshire Cottage their home. I want to let readers know that this book has some trigger warnings around physical and emotional abuse. Stella’s story is grim at times, and there are scenes where her husband is very physically abusive towards her. If the topic of abuse is not something you are comfortable with, I would not recommend reading this book. I recently finished reading The Cottage Full Of Secrets which is due for release on Tuesday! I received an ARC via @netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Patience an elderly spinster leaves Ellie her cottage on the island on the condition she lives in it for a year. I have always loved dual-time narratives, but most times it is always the past that holds my interest rather than the story in the present, but Rebecca Aleander’s writing is such that both timelines are utterly captivating. The story of Patience and a lone young boy Dutch saved from the seas during WWII and then the story of Elowen finding herself on the Island and her love with Bran holds the readers' interest magnificently. The island and its inhabitants and the whole lot of lovely characters residing there feel like our own. The reading experience was so immersive that I wanted Morwen Island to be somewhere nearby where I can walk around and experience the island in all its glory. The ending. It was fitting, real, raw, and optimistic in the promise and hope of the future and for things to come, despite the dark past.
