This is a super easy read that I read in basically one sitting. If you’re looking for a fast thriller with some fabulous twists then this is a must for you! I looked forward to this book! I like an earlier one by the same author and this one is set in Norway, where I live. Of course, I knew the risks. I would be too familiar with local quirks. That wasn't so much the issue, but the name "Leif" being pronounced "life" instead of "lay-f" annoyed the hell out of me. I guess I should have avoided the audio edition. Fragile female friendships, a beautiful yet hostile environment and dark local intrigue lead, step by step, to tragedy. The Hike simmers with tension throughout. A gripping read!' GILLY MACMILLAN

The Hike is easily my favourite Lucy Clarke novel to date. I love a good isolated thriller mystery novel and The Hike is a fabulous example of a destination thriller. Fans of Lucy Clarke and newcomers will lap this one up in no time at all. But there's a darker side to the wilderness. A woman went missing here one year ago. Now the friends are hiking into the heart of the mystery. And waiting on the trail is someone who'd do anything to keep their secrets buried - and to stop the group walking away alive . . .It's amazing how much Clarke was able to take on in The Hike. In short chapters from alternating viewpoints, she explores themes like marriage, motherhood, the complexities of female friendship, and drug addiction, while also telling a propulsive, suspenseful, atmospheric survival story. Each of the four friends at the center of this novel is thoughtfully crafted, with unique traits and viewpoints that made it easy to differentiate among them. Their internal conflicts and their conflicts with each other, even as they were dealing with the external challenge of being inexperienced hikers and potentially being stalked through the wilderness, made for a tense, engaging reading experience. The Hike is a triumph, an immersive sense of place with a thread of tension taut enough to snap. I loved it' JANE SHEMILT
