About this deal

Using a CCS connector is really simple and no different than most other EV chargers. You’ll just need to park safely near the charging point and plug in. The charging unit will usually have instructions to help with the details, but it’s a simple process that you’ll soon get used to. The proposal for a "Combined Charging System" (CCS) was published at the 15th International VDI-Congress (Association of German Engineers) on 12 October 2011 in Baden-Baden. CCS defines a single connector pattern on the vehicle side that offers enough space for a Type 1 or Type 2 connector, along with space for a two-pin DC connector allowing charging at up to 200 amps. Seven car makers (Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, General Motors, Porsche and Volkswagen) agreed in late 2011 to introduce CCS in mid-2012. [9] [10] In May 2012, ACEA endorsed the standardization of the Combo 2 connector across the European Union. [11] ACEA were joined later that month by the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA) and The Union of the Electricity Industry (EURELECTRIC). [12] Also that month, prototype implementations for up to 100kW were shown at EVS26 in Los Angeles. [13] DC charging specifications in the IEC62196-3 draft give a range up to 125A at up to 850V. Wayland, Michael (2023-06-08). "GM to use Tesla charging network, joining Ford in leveraging the EV leader's tech". CNBC . Retrieved 2023-06-19. The Type 2 Mennekes plug is installed on almost all European electric vehicles as well as Chinese ones adopted for selling. Vehicles with this type of connector can be charged from both a single-phase and a three-phase power grid with a maximum voltage of 400 V and a current of 63 A. The maximum power of such charging stations is 43 kW, but it usually fluctuates below 22 kW for three-phase networks and 7.4 kW for single-phase networks. Electric vehicles are charged in Mode 2 and Mode 3. not too bad anyway, because the OP didnt indicate if his 22kw Zoe was Q or R motor anyway , so if he has got the 'R' one anyway he is still limited to 22kw anyway. It doesn't matter what connector your EV uses, as long as you can safely attach it to a charger using some combination of cable and adapter. These connectors are the norm in Europe for charging your electric car at home, on a standard AC electricity supply. CCS are not compatible with CHAdeMO and GB / T charging stations because they use different communication protocols, so special adapters are needed and they are not easy to obtain. There's the AC version that's installed on the front of people's houses, which is made up of seven pins, two small and five large, with a flattened edge for orientation.

This type of connector is mainly found in North America and is used for home charging on AC electricity supplies. Hi everyone, I’m new to ev owning and am loving it so far. I have a new ZE50 136 GT Line with a type 2 charging plug and I have an Ohme smart charger installed at home. Forgive my ignorance, but I noticed that the the plug on a ccs charger lead tethered to public chargers seems to have a type 2 outlet surmounted by the 2 pin dc outlet. Directive 2014/94/EU (on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure) (Report). European Parliament. 22 October 2014. Appendix II … Technical specifications for recharging points … Direct current (DC) high power recharging points for electric vehicles shall be equipped, for interoperability purposes, at least with connectors of the combined charging system 'Combo 2' as described in standard EN 62196-3. Unlike the connector and inlet, which depend on the geographical location, the charging communication is the same around the globe. Generally two types of communication can be differentiated.Interestingly, the Japanese-based CHAdeMO Association and the China Electricity Council (which controls GB/T) are working together on a new DC rapid system known as ChaoJi.In April 2020, they announced the final protocols called CHAdeMO 3.0. This will allow charging at over 500 kW (600 amps limit) and will also provide bidirectional charging. World EV Summint in Norway – Chademo, Nissan and Volkswagen align on promoting multi-standard fast chargs to accelerate infrastructure deployment and EV adoption" (PDF). Chademo Association Europe. 2013-06-11. Archived from the original (PDF) on 2013-09-25 . Retrieved 2013-07-09. Essentially, the CCS plug is a fancied-up version of the Type 2 plug that is universal for charging EVs. Why is it called CCS?
