It is 1666 and Vlad the flea and his friend Boxton the rat, love eating and biting their way around London.This is a three week talk for writing unit plan based on the book ‘Vlad and The Great Fire of London’ by Kate and Sam Cunningham. The plan is 12 lessons long, although some of these will probably take more than one session to complete. The lessons include a ‘warm-up’ game/ activity, the main teaching session and independent work, and a plenary. There are suggestions for differentiation and use of support staff too. A man called Samuel Pepys was alive during the fire of London. He kept a diary and wrote about the fire, this gives us a lot of first-hand information about what happened. Samuel Pepys also wrote how he buried his cheese and wine in the ground to keep it safe from the fire. Without Samuel Pepys, and his writings, we would have far less information about the fire, how it started, and how it was eventually stopped. What happened after the Great Fire of London?
