About this deal

This isn’t a thing that you’ll be cooking with. Instead, you apply a bunch of pressure to your patty through the trowel, lift it, and set it aside. Cleanup is easy enough since there’s no cooking going on in between the burger and the trowel — it’s like cleaning a knife that you’ve used to “cut” ground beef. Cast iron presses are superior to stainless steel presses because their heavier weight applies the right amount of pressure to the burger. However, they require hand washing and drying after each use and may need oiling to prevent rust. Despite the extra care, their performance often justifies the effort. These presses can have either a smooth surface or one with bumps or ridges, which can be more challenging to clean. is what I bought last time around. I didn't know how much I missed the flavor in the lean beef we'd been using. The only thing I would say is if you want it to work even better than it already does, get some of those round parchment paper discs.

Best Smash Burger Presses of All Time - Flame Surfers

This is a simple, sturdy, well made kitchen tool that does it's job perfectly. It's great for smash burgers or pressing other food down in the grill or pan to get a better sear. I don't find any need for wax paper or anything else. Just press and go. The shape of a burger press also matters. Round presses tend to outperform rectangular ones because they align better with the traditional round shape of hamburgers. However, larger, rectangular presses can accommodate more burgers simultaneously. You smash burgers by pressing down on them with a flat piece of metal. The bottom of a frying pan is an absolutely perfect way to do this. Your frying pan comes with a handy handle and you can easily push down on the inside of the pan with one hand to apply as much pressure as you want. In many cases, your frying pan will out-perform a dedicated tool. That’s where the smash burger press comes in. A smash burger press is a simple tool that helps you create the perfect smash burger every time. It has a heavy-duty surface to flatten a burger patty down to size.

I was browsing another forum and someone posted this video and was asking what smash burger tool that was. My wife saw my big CI pan, which had been stored away, and immediately thought of a recipe she'd seen where a stove top meal was transferred to the oven. She said, "That pan could go from the stove into the oven couldn't it?" A smash burger is made by smashing a ball of ground beef onto a hot grill or griddle with a spatula or a press. This creates a thin, crispy patty with a well-browned crust and a juicy, flavorful interior. What happens when you press a smash burger? The base of the press can be either flat or grill-shaped. Flat presses are user-friendly, easy to clean, and apply pressure evenly. Conversely, presses with a grill-shaped bottom distribute fat more evenly, sear burgers more efficiently, and leave appealing grill marks, enhancing the overall taste. Material & Texture

I would say medium to high heat. You definitely want water to "skitter". I usually test out a small piece to make sure it's hot enough. You want a good crust on the burger and make sure it's 8/20. Presses with handles molded from the same cast iron or stainless steel as the press’s bottom are more durable. Ideally, the handle should rise at least 2 inches above the top of the base for easy and safe handling. Low handles can be challenging to grasp and may require a towel to hold due to the heat from the press’s base, making them cumbersome. When you press a smash burger, you create a larger surface area for the Maillard reaction to occur. The Maillard reaction is a chemical reaction between amino acids and reducing sugars when heated. This reaction is responsible for the browning and flavor development in many foods, including burgers, steaks, and bread. It's important to always heat it before wiping a film of oil on. Film of oil being the key noteworthy point. I have a nice lint free cloth that is oiled lightly with EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) in a quart size ziploc bag I use. It bearly makes a discernible shine to the surface. Flax Seed Oil is on my target list to get. Just the caplets from the vitamin isle. One of them opened, the oil wiped on the CI, will season and keep it seasoned. Place one of the burger balls on the hot pan and immediately press it down with the smash burger press. I have it on good authority that the chefs at many fine burger joints around the world don’t use any of the above tools to smash their burgers. Instead, they use a regular finishing trowel. Measures 8 inches and weighs 3.5 pounds–the right size and weight for all your pressing and smashing tasks.

Sturdy and affordable. Commercial CHEF Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Press, 7-Inch Surface with Grill Marks On the downside, it comes unseasoned and will rust immediately if you don’t oil and heat it. You can trust the pre-included instruction manual to season it properly. Bellemain also offers a non-rotating, rectangular option at a lower price if a fixed handle is your number one priority. This option also features a wooden handle, but the handle design is such that it doesn’t rotate.

While larger presses can cook more burgers simultaneously, they often yield subpar results. They function like lids, trapping heat and steam around the burgers. The trapped steam prevents browning, leading to less appetizing, pale, wan, wet, or soggy burgers. There are definitely some downsides to the trowel method — you need to apply pressure yourself, it’s a bit weird to keep a trowel in your kitchen, and you don’t get to use your kitchen trowel for very many other tasks. On the other hand, it’s about as authentic as you can get when it comes to creating a restaurant-quality smashed burger. If you want the smashburger tool that the pros use, a trowel like this one is your best bet. Making The Best Smash Burger At Home Smashburger has come up with a brilliant way of preparing hamburgers. By smashing the patties to be as thin as possible, they maximize the crisp, browned exterior that makes a burger so delicious. You give up the juicy pink interior with this process, of course, but the resulting burger is very much worth it. Here are some of the best tools you can use at home to make smashed burgers in your own kitchen. Don’t press down on the burger patty again after you flip it. This will release the juices and make the burger dry. Overall, the Cuisinart Smashed Burger Press has everything in its arsenal to make it an excellent burger press. It’s well-made and performs very well. Can’t recommend enough. Pros:
