About this deal

The biggest problem with ferrofluid is that it is easy to stain the glass bottle,” he said. “To fix it, you need to keep the glass chemically very clean. It is then possible to make the glass surface superhydrophilic through a special coating. In addition, ferrofluid must be made not to oxidize for a long time because the main ingredient is oil.” Dissolve the soap in water with some acid (sulphuric). The oily substance collected at the top is mostly Oleic acid with stearic acid and linoleic acid. This can be further purified by refrigeration.

You may have heard about harvesting iron oxide from cassette tapes using acetone. If you’d like to try this method, break apart cassette tapes and soak the tape in acetone for 1 hour outside. Then, use a knife to gently scrape the iron oxide off the tape into a dish. Just keep in mind that many people have tried this method with little success, so it’s a better idea just to buy iron oxide outright. Dissolve the Oleic acid coated particles in petrol/kerosene and then keep the beaker over a big magnet to precipitate the unwanted big particles. Then Decant the useful Oleic acid coated particles which stayed in the solution CDs and vinyl records are two physical audio formats that some folks swear by, especially when it comes to sound quality. But even the most tenacious audiophiles have come around to the excellent sound quality now available on digital streaming services, so much so that digital audio has become the primary way we consume our music. But with the range of hi-fi setups people have at home, new and old, one of the best ways to bring your digital audio and online streaming services to them is by adding a dedicated network music streamer. There’s also a glass bottle containing the ferrofluid, some LEDs for illuminating it, and a mounted electromagnet, controlled via Arduino Nano, whichcoaxes the ferrofluid into reacting to the music played. No biggie. For aqueous ferrofluid, silanize the glass with Rain-X automotive windshield treatment. If you want both a hydrophobic and oleophobic glass surface, fluoroalkylsilane surface coupling Use a magnet to manipulate the ferrofluid. Since iron oxide is magnetic, it will automatically gravitate toward the force of a magnet. Place your magnet underneath the petri dish and move it around. Have fun playing with your ferrofluid! Some have big booming volume while others are more suited to smaller rooms like apartments, and some are just designed to blow you away completely, like the 3,000-watt Nakmichi Dragon. There's a soundbar for every situation and budget. You can make brakes with it by putting some fluid between a wheel's axle and hub. The wheel will spin freely as the fluid acts just as a liquid lubricant, but if you apply a magnetic field, you're suddenly putting a lot of friction of the wheel's rotation. A solution of ~25% distilled water (a.k.a. deionized water) and ~75% of store bought isopropyl alcohol at 91% concentration. That means that ~70% of my solution was actually isopropyl alcohol. I eyeballed the ratio between the water and the isopropyl alcohol, those numbers are likely to not be exactly correct. Ships in 2 business days Vibrant colored ferrofluid in a circular bottle. Amaze your friends and distract yourself at the desk with this astonishing magnetic liquid in a bottle. -Includes one magnet.... Now add double the volume of Acetone to extract these particle out of the solution. They stay coated with Oleic acid.

heat the solution to about 80 ℃ – 90 ℃ . The ammonium oleate will decompose to again form oleic acid (which is hydrophobic) and it will separate out the magnetic particles from the solution. Dispose of ferrofluid like you’d dispose of motor oil. Since ferrofluid is mostly motor oil, it’s considered hazardous waste. For small quantities (like 1 batch), seal it in an airtight container and throw it in the trash. For large quantities (like multiple batches), take the ferrofluid to a hazardous waste facility. [7] X Research source What about an ammonia-based fluid mix? I saw one guy on youtube that said he made it with Windex (the liquid was a clear greenish color) and another guy said he made it with Windolene(he's in the UK) but it went cloudy after a while. Meanwhile doing some other research I found someone who says their product (they sell ferrofluid desk toys) should be kept at room temp and will go cloudy if kept too cold. My guess is the guy in the UK had it accidentally get too cold.. because it's the UK, lol. Add some isopropyl alcohol to the glass container. Then add some (or all) of your ferrofluid to the container. Then add some water to bring your isopropyl alcohol concentration to about 70%. Next, use a magnet to settle the ferrofluid to the bottom and then remove the magnet. If your ferrofluid has little bits that are floating, then you need to add more water. If your ferrofluid looks too stringy then I would add more alcohol. When I was done the ferrofluid had zero staining, like you see in the videos online, except for in a few spots. I think for better results I would need a higher quality glass container.Motor oil is the carrier oil that will hold your fluid together. Measure out the motor oil using an electronic scale. Then, pour the oil into a shallow dish made of thin plastic, like a petri dish. [1] X Research source
