About this deal

Can you use the Gro-Egg as a nightlight? The ingenious Groegg changes colour in response to a room’s temperature. And yes, it can also be used as a nightlight! We spoke to these real parent testers to get their review... How did this product make your life easier? Rachel: This really does a simple job of telling you the room temperature, but there is something satisfying about having the colour glow “scale”. I’m comparing that to a thermostat in my hallway, which technically does the same thing but is very boring! It made my life easier to an extent, it’s a peace of mind always being aware of the temp of the room is and therefore how to dress my baby. I would describe it as a nice, but not necessary, gadget. My criticism comes as my flat it very hot, so the Groegg always glowed bright red for ‘danger your room is too hot’, but there is very little I could do. Once I knew it was always glowing red it became useless. I imagine in a cooler house, that may feel the temperature dips, its going to have more longevity.

While I’ve used it all year round, this room thermometer was particularly helpful and reassuring during last year’s summer heatwave when I lived in a south-facing, one-bed flat with a then two-month-old baby who I needed to keep cool at all times. While I think the LED display might actually be too bright considering it’s on show permanently when the device is plugged in, it’s clear that the brightness is more a safety measure than anything else.Newborns aren’t able to control their own body temperature, so your baby relies on you to monitor and keep their nursery at a constant temperature that's not too hot or cold.

I personally love mine, let's me keep a eye on temperature. In the winter when I was ill and was feeling cold as you do, it was telling me temperature was ok so didn't overheat the room but my friend hated it so got rid. The Gro-egg 2, is a colour changing digital room thermometer, is another clever innovation to help promote safer sleep for babies from the people who brought you the Grobag, Baby Sleep Bag. The patented Gro-egg 2 glows yellow if the room temperature is within recommended guidelines (16–20°C). If the room temperature is outside this range, take action to cool or heat the room, or adjust the baby’s bedding or clothing. A room thermometer is easy to use and usually has a clear, accurate digital display showing a room's temperature. Tony Kealys is unable to take responsibility for any delivery delays which are outside of their control. Infant sleep is a minefield at the best of times, but one of the most important parts of a safe and comfortable night’s sleep for babies is their environment.

Our verdict on the Groegg2

Parents can also refer to special charts that will show how much or little bedding a baby needs at certain temperatures. The soft-glow light helps to create a calming sleep environment has 3 different brightness levels so you can adjust the intensity of the light to suit your little one. That might feel rather chilly to you, but overheating is linked to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) or cot death, so it’s better for the nursery to be on the cooler side. The Groegg 2 comes with an updated and improved night light feature with a brighter design than the original gro egg. This feature we didn’t use so much with the babies, however once they hit toddlerhood and discovered a fear of the dark, it became super handy.

What is the difference between Groegg & Groegg2? The Groegg2 is a larger, brighter version of the Groegg. It also has a soft, silicone covering as opposed to the hard plastic covering of the original version. Worried about your baby getting too hot in bed and also the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)?A lot of baby monitors do have the same functions on them as the Gro-Egg, however, if you don’t use a baby monitor – if your child sleeps in with you at night, or if your baby monitor doesn’t have an inbuilt thermometer then this would be a great product for you. What’s the difference between Gro Egg and Gro Egg 2 thermometers?

It also changes colour depending on the temperature, to red for when it's getting too warm, and blue when it's getting coldHard to tell. While it certainly doesn’t disturb my daughter when she’s asleep, there’s no real way of me knowing whether the Groegg2 helps to calm her down. Despite the brightness of the LED display, it’s still an inconspicuous addition to her nursery, so isn’t something she takes much notice which means that it doesn’t negatively affect her sleep.
